(Y/N) was nervous. Will could see that clearer than day. She was scared about something and he couldn't figure out why. Was she scared that her grandmother wouldn't like Will? Why would she be scared about that? It wasn't like they were dating.
His ears burned red at the thought. Dating (Y/N) sounded... well, quite honestly, it sounded amazing.
You can't and you won't, he thought bitterly. Remember that.
He followed after (Y/N) nervously, trying to ignore his thoughts. Instead, he busied himself with checking his collar, making sure it covered the dark purple bruise that ringed his neck. He suddenly felt a hundred times more self-conscious and nervous. It wasn't like he could just shrug off any questions by saying that he was clumsy - there was no way he could be that clumsy. How would he even manage bruising himself so severely on accident?
That thought distracted him for a moment as (Y/N) slowed to a stop outside a nondescript door. She wringed her hands nervously as she stood there.
After a moment of silence, she finally murmured, "M-maybe you should wait out here. For a moment. Um..." She glanced over, her eyes glazed and distant. "Yeah. Just wait out here. I'll be quick. Promise."
She slipped into the room shortly after, not waiting for Will's response.
Will stood in the hallway, suddenly completely alone. The pale halls had fallen silent. He was alone with his thoughts and he absolutely hated it.
He wasn't surprised, he supposed. Maybe a little put out because (Y/N) wasn't bringing him in with her, but he knew that she probably didn't want to startle her grandmother. Or something.
He sighed, fidgeting with his watch in the silence. He didn't want to admit that he was bored, but... he was bored.
His eyes rested on the door in front of him as a wave of curiosity suddenly swept through him. Will wanted to know what was going on in there, why (Y/N) had come here.
Biting his lip nervously, he pressed his ear to the door, straining to hear what was going on inside the room.
"Hey, Grandma," (Y/N) greeted quietly. "Do you... do you remember me?" There was a note of uncertainty in her voice and Will could almost see her toying with her (H/C) hair.
Silence. Then: "Well, duh, (Y/N). I'm old, not stupid."
Will had to stifle a sharp giggle that rose unexpectedly in his throat at the response. He didn't know what he was expecting, but it certainly hadn't been a response like that. At least he knew where (Y/N) got it from.
He heard (Y/N) exhale sharply. He wondered if she were relieved or even more nervous. He could never read the girl's emotions properly. She was always a little bit closed off. Mysterious.
"Good, good. That's good." (Y/N) sounded relieved, at least. For some reason, that fact made Will happy.
There was another long silence between the two women.
The familiar sound of the cheap hospital blankets crinkling then filled the silent air. "Who was that out there with you, (Y/N)?"
Will heard a sharp cough in response, a shocked sound. "W-what do you mean? Nobody!" (Y/N) laughed nervously. He could envision her now pacing back and forth, messing with her hoodie, her wild hair, anything to distract her.
"That's a bald-faced lie, (Y/N). I could hear you talking to whoever it was." A lilt of laughter danced in the woman's voice. The rustling sheets grew louder, then was replaced with the sound of somebody quickly making their way to the door.
