Tomika's POV
My breath lodges in my throat, and I start coughing, hard. Summer looks at me, her eyes wide and panicky. Slowly, I nod to her, and she breaths deeply.
"Sure!" Summer, replies cheerfully. Following Freddy out of the room, she adds a small skip to her step.
"Be brave Summer, do the right thing." I mutter to myself, hoping by some crazy thought, that Summer would hear me. The whole classroom itself has stopped breathing. Everyone's focus on the door, their two classmates had just exited. When Summer re-enters the classroom she all alone, without Freddy. Hushed whispers rise in volume, and my breath hitches. Summer gives me a small smile, and I return it.
"It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life." Summer whispers to me, as she slides into her desk. I nod, understanding what she's saying.
"Thanks Summer, that meant a lot to me." I comfort her. She nods slowly, her smile long gone. "If it will make you feel any better, we can go for ice cream after school!" I say as cheerfully as I could muster.
"Thanks Tomika. But I think I'll pass." Her breathing becomes a little ragged, and my heart beat increases. No, Summer is not going to cry in front of everyone, that's bad for her reputation. "No you're going to come have ice cream with me." I tell her. She nods, then suddenly looks up. I follow her line of sight and see Freddy standing in the doorway.
"Hey guys!" Freddy says weakly. I look at Summer to see what her reaction is, but her head is down in the desk.
"Hey Freddy!" I chirp, walking up to him. Grabbing his arm I pull him to his desk. "There you go!" Smiling weakly, Freddy averts his gaze from me, and up to the back of Summer's hair. Rolling my eyes, I walk quickly back to my seat. Oh gosh what have I done!
