Chapter 12: Not really alone

Jen Pov:

My first afternoon alone, well except for Ava who's asleep in Ainsley's bed. I pick up my phone and scroll through it. I click on my text messages with Kyle and scroll through them. We've been texting a lot since I haven't been able to see him. After a few minutes I start to get nervous about Ainsley. What if she has a panic attack and my parents can't help? To take my mind off things I decide to call Kyle. After a couple rings he picks up and I hear crying in the background

"Jen hey" he says out of breath

"Sorry is this a bad time"

"No no it's just" an ear piercing scream comes through the phone

"Kyle you can just call me back okay"

"No no actually, are you busy"

"Not at the moment"

"Lorelei is at a doctors appointment and I need to pick her up. I was supposed to have a skype meeting this morning but Eli has a ear infection and won't stop crying. I went to the doctor but I haven't had time to get the medicine and I need to call my boss and"

"Whoa whoa take a breath. I can help, what do you need me to do"

"Could you watch Eli while I pick up Lorelei and the medicine. Will that be too hard with Ainsley"

"Actually my parents are with her. I'll be over in a minute just text me your address"

"Thank you so much"

Kyle hangs up the phone. I'm happy to help him with what ever he needs and I'm a bit excited to see him. I get the text on my phone then head over to his house. He lives about 30 minutes away from my house. I pull up to this cute small house which is slightly worn down. As soon as I get out of the car Kyle comes racing out the door. He pulls me in for a deep kiss and I pull away with a smile

"Nice to see you too" I chuckle

He pecks my lips again "okay so Eli is still crying in his crib and I will be back as soon as I can"

Kyle jumps in his car and I walk into the house. I follow the screaming to a bedroom. I see Eli's crib in the corner of what appears to be Kyle's bedroom. I pick him up out of the crib

"Shh shh it's okay"

Eli rests on my shoulder as I bounce him. I start walking around the house to try and calm him down but he won't stop screaming. Kyle said he has an ear infection so I go to the fridge and grab some ice. I wrap the ice in a towel and sit down on the couch in the living room. I cradle Eli in my arms and hold the ice to his infected ear. I start softly humming to him so he calms down. After about 10 minutes he's stopped crying and fallen into a light sleep. I remove the ice from his ear and cuddle him against my chest. I lay my head against the couch cushions and close my eyes. I'm awoken when I hear the door open. Kyle and Lorelei come through the door and throw their bags on the ground.

"Shh shh shh he's sleeping" I say

"How in the world did you get him asleep" Kyle asks

"She's a miracle worker" Lorelei adds

"No I just put ice on his ear and sang to him, he settled" I roll my eyes at them

Kyle joins me on the couch and smiles at me.

"What" I ask

"Nothing, you're just pretty cute holding my son"

I smile back "did you get the medicine"
