Shit shit shit shit... Shit!

Faye knew this would happen, eventually, but not right now. Her shift in the bar was far from over.

"Faye." Cain repeated with his soul-shuddering tone.

"Cain," she moved closer to him from behind the bar and lowered her voice, "How about we talk about this tomorrow?"

"No. Outside. Now." Cain bit out slowly, forcing a shudder to run down her spine at his command.

Steeling her resolve, Faye straightened up. He had no right to be angry with her. Annoyed? Sure! But not angry.

This certainly wasn't personal.

But the fact was, Faye was scared he'd take her job as his tutor away, and now all of Amanda's warning vocalized inside her head and she regretted hiding this from him.

Then there was the fact about his... condition. Which she realized was more important to her than the actual job.

"Hold up one sec. ok?" she bit her lips pleadingly, but his scowl didn't waver. Gulping loudly, she excused herself and moved around the bar; walking so she was ahead of Cain until the two of them stood outside.

When she turned around, she noticed how close he stood in front of her, his back a bit hunched, making him even more menacing as he regarded her smaller frame. She noticed how his heated gaze roamed her exposed body and she realized that this was the first time she was this exposed, with her short skirt, to Cain.

And that made her skin flush.

She crossed her arms in front of her as a defensive gesture, noticing how he looked up at her face before his eyes transfixed on her freed hair.

"Look," she started but Cain cut her short.

"How long have you been working here?" he said in a surprisingly calm voice.

"err, well..." Faye muttered, looking down at the dirty pavement.

"Faye, don't test my patience." Cain bit out, all calmness replaced by suppressed rage.

Maybe he hadn't calmed in the first place.

"Since I started... working with you." She said, looking up and meeting his eyes. She knew she looked sheepish.

"Jasmine isn't paying you enough?" it wasn't a question; it was more of a snarly rhetorical statement. She felt her cheeks heat in anger and she was about to give him a piece of her mind when suddenly, Cain's angry expression dropped.

"Did you think we wouldn't make it to the end of the deal?" he suddenly said, shocking her with how grieve his voice sounded, "you though Cain isn't trust worthy."

The way he spat his name at her, it broke her heart.

"Oh, no. It's not..." But it was exactly that. She needed plan B, she always had multiple plans. The truth was, she couldn't afford losing her job with Cain to start over once again.

Too much was at stake.

"No, I get it." Cain raised his hand, palm facing her and stepped back. His eyes dropped down, and that made her gut clench as if it was punched. "It shouldn't surprise me. I am a not... anything."
