20:Unreachable
"He's not coming, is he?" Callum scoffed.
"Don't say that. She said he'd be here!" Carla whined.
Faye was sure she specifically told Cain how important this assignment meeting was. Callum won't agree to sign him in the meeting if he didn't come.
"I'm sure something came up. He said he would." Faye averted her eyes from the two, gathering her hair back in a tight bun.
"Yeah, right." Callum scoffed. "Let's just get this over with. I have to pick Mia up from the airport in an hour." Mia was Callum's fiancée, and as much as Faye loved the girl, she couldn't smile at the mention of her. "I hope his absence doesn't leave a dent in our meeting report."
Faye rolled her eyes at how Carla's expression dropped. She wasn't suppose to be in this group assignment, but she was too late to assign herself in any other group, so they were stuck with her. "I'm signing him in." Faye finally blurted out.
"The hell you would!" Callum exclaimed in the middle of the library.
Faye raised her eyebrows challengingly, "He's your brother." She bit out, "I am the one writing the 'Meeting Report'. We are not discussing this here."
Oh, she was furious at Cain, after practically throwing her out of his home last night and now his absence only meant her progress with him diminished in less than twenty-four hours. The worst thing was, she didn't even know what set him off.
And that made her want to shake someone, and Callum was making himself an easy target.
"Now," she dismissed his scowl and continued, "let's discuss this damn project. You and I, since we are the most committed, will be responsible for the presentation. Clara and Cain will do the writing. No offence, Clar." She threw a tight smile toward their third unwanted party.
"Oh, Oh." Clara perked up, "did you see that, we have the same first litter!" she exclaimed happily, "It's a sign!"
Faye scowled her way before she said against her better judgment, "So are you and Callum. And he's actually here!"
"Looks like someone is pissed at their star student." Callum muttered quietly on her other side, and Faye quickly turned her deathly scowl his way, "Just saying. Fumes are practically coming out of your ears., Miller."
Faye sighed in defeat.
"And just so we're clear," Callum turned to her, "when you say the writing part on Cain and Clar, you mean we will have to do it as well, since the two of them are so incompetent. I need an A in this project. No offence, Clar." He threw an apologetic glance Clara's way.
"Whoa. See how they ring together, our names." Clara perked again, and Faye was seeing the thick book in front of her as a potential murder weapon.
"See what I'm talking about?" Callum smirked down at her smugly.
"No, I don't." Faye glared his way before pulling a hand written paper out of her bag and threw it his way, "Cain has already wrote his part. I hope you can recognize your own brother's handwriting. And it's pretty damn well-written too!" she stood up, grabbing her things in a hurry, not caring how much noise she was causing in the library, "Make sure she finishes her part," Faye inhaled deeply and turned to Clara with the most neutral expression she could muster and said as softly as she could, "No offence, Clar."
Clara shrugged and waved goodbye as Faye made her way out of the crammed study space.
She hated how unfair she was to Clara, but the girl was obsessed with Cain to the point of stupidity. She'd attend the class they shared with Cain and would make any excuse to sit next to him. Now, that might now seem very strange for a girl who liked a guy.
