Chapter 2

"Holy cow look at all the people in here, I don't think I've ever seen these many different people before!" Laney said excitedly as we stood in the giant entryway of our college cafeteria.

The cafeteria was in the same building as the library. The library consisted of the top four stories out of the five and the cafeteria was on the bottom. The building had no corners and was all rounded off with different food stations in each area. I looked up in awe at the giant skylight that deserved to be in a castle, it had a slight blue tint to the glass that made the natural light from the sun have an ocean feel to it. The skylight made the library portion of the building look even more majestic, as the stairs spiraled up towards the light. I looked around at the diverse variety of food surrounding me, trying to decide on what type of food I wanted.

I felt strange in this building part of me felt kind of like home, I'm better it's the Library, I have always felt peace when I have a book in my hand. The other part of me was on the verge of an anxiety attack. I had never seen so many people in one building before, and while the building was big and spread out, it was cramped with people at the same time. The walls were lined with students, all different heights, weights, and colors.

In college, I realized they feed you way better than in high school.  "Let's just hurry and get out, this is making me nervous" I chimed in. "College food is so much better than high school food, looking at all of this I don't know how we've survived all these years!" I heard Laney say almost reading my mind. While I was admiring all my food choices, I turned around right into a stranger.

"I am so sorry!! I was so distracted and wasn't watching where I was going!!" I stammered embarrassed, feeling the heat come to my ears.

"No no it's my fault I just ran smack into ya, my name is Cameron Cole!" he said while taking off his hat.

I stared straight into his deep blue eyes that had just a hint of sea green in them just long enough for Laney to elbow me in the ribs bringing me back to the present. "Hi, I'm Lily Asher, it's nice to meet you," I said back to him trying to look over his shoulder for an exit, but it was impossible with how tall and broad he was. Cameron had to be at least 6'5 compared to my 5'6, normally I'm not considered short but compare to him I was tiny. "It was nice meeting you too Lily," he said while stuffing his hat back over his sandy blonde hair. He turned back to his friends that were waiting for him at a table in the far back table. I have to get out here I thought to myself, Laney knew exactly what I was thinking. We turned right around and walked towards the exit, I gave one last fleeting glance for Cameron but couldn't see him through the giant cluster of people.

" You okay?" my friend asked me after a couple of deep breaths. "Yeah I'll be fine the worst is over" I wish I didn't have anxiety; these panic attacks are going to be the death of me, I thought to myself. Laney was gracious enough not to talk about my embarrassing run-in with Cameron, at least until we got back to our apartment. "So that was like out of a movie, what'd you think of him?" Laney asked with an arch in her brow and a smirk on her face. "What do you think! I totally embarrassed myself in front of him! I would be fine with never seeing him again" I told her, but deep down a part of me wanted to see him again and soon. The way he looked right into my eyes with no embarrassment and kindness tugged my heartstrings for some reason. His voice was deep but sweet with its southern drawl. I needed to stop thinking about him, he probably thought I was some freak that ran into him on purpose. We decided to try the cafeteria again tomorrow, and got into Laney's car and drove home.

I finish unpacking and decorating my room, I step back to admire my work. I notice an empty patch on my wall, it's the perfect size for my favorite band's poster. I grab my nails, and hammer and only then I realize that I was way too short to hang it where I wanted it. Still pondering solutions to my problem, I hear a knock on my bedroom door. "Come in" I yell with my back still to the door. " I think I need a step stool Laney I'm too dang short," I say thinking it was Laney entering my room.
