Chapter 18
He left me alone for the first few nights, using the space next to me on the bed to sleep. I was great full for that, but I knew what was going to happen next. I know he can't hold back the monster for long, and so far the first day is the only time he's made an appearance.
The days without the monster were actually nice, and almost normal. Lucas professed his love for me every minuet of the day. He went on about how great of a wife and mother I would be, and then he would pounder baby names. With nothing better to do, and no light at the end of the tunnel, I went along with him. I pictured what our kids would look like, we would 3 of them, one boy and two girls. The little boy with look like his father, black hair as dark as night but his features would be softer than Lucas's. His eyes would maintain a light grey just like his father's but without a monster. He would be taught how to love, care and cherish human life.
Our daughters would look like a perfect mix of us. They would have my warm skin tone, always tanning in the sun. Their hair would be a light dirty blonde during the summer and a dark blonde in the winter. They would have his eyes though, but instead of the light grey. They would acquire the beautifully haunting dark grey like the monster, but they would be nothing like the monster. They would all be like me in their hearts, loving and loyal. But their father would have a monster in him that would prevent us all from living happily. That brought me back to my hell of a reality. When he wasn't talking about our future, he asked about my past, about my family. So I told him everything, I shared with him precious moments with them that I'd never told anyone else. He answered all my questions and tried to soothe my worry but there was one question that would leave him angry.
What was behind that steel door? I asked and he avoided and got mad, telling me I don't want to know. He was right, I didn't want to know what was behind that door, not if I don't have too. I asked one to many times, and finally one night I found out what horrors lay behind that door.
For the first time in almost a month Lucas left me alone in the cabin. Earlier that morning he told me that he had errands to run and he will be back by tonight. "If you act good I'll bring home gifts for you, okay love?" he said while gently cupping my face in his hands. "I will be, I love you Lucas." I say and kiss him gently on the palm of his hand. "I love you too Lily, now and forever." he said back to me as he unlatched the heavy front door.
This last month I decided that if I was going to survive, I needed to show him I loved him, to give him what he wants. I waited and heard the pad locks on the outside lock into place and I went running. I ran from window to window, trying to pry the bars apart but to no avail. The whole cabin was a prison, which I knew it would be. Even if I could have gotten out, I don't think I would have ran. It's to cold out there for me to survive but also I would have been putting my family and Cam at risk, which is something I could never do.
Hours had passed of me doing doing nothing, with out Lucas here it was empty and lonely. I actually missed him, but now I was starting to worry about him. He said he'd be home tonight but it's almost midnight now and still no Lucas. A strong beam of head lights shine through the barred window I had been staring out of. Scrambling away from the window I dash to the bed room and struggle to step through the crack. After a month of dealing with this door I had gotten used to yanking it open and had even created a stopper out of shoes.
