Chapter 14

Dinner that night was hectic as always. I was busy in the kitchen preparing supper with the assistance of my two sisters, making it take longer than normal. It was what I had missed most about, while I was away. My family meant everything to me, and being away from them took a toll on me. My mom lingered in the kitchen with us, telling me stories of everything I had missed. My sister's laughter filled the air, their sweet innocent giggles warmed my heart.

My brother was still in the backyard playing catch with Cam, I can hear the two of them laughing with each other.  My dad was sitting in the living room on the couch watching a football game, occasionally yelling at the T.V. This is how life is supposed to be, full of fun, laughter, and love. Lucas popped into my head at that moment, always ready to ruin my good mood.My mom noticed the faraway look I had while remembering the pain he put me through.

"Lily, whats wrong?"She asked me while getting up from her seat and walking over to me. The bruises all over my body flushed with heat, reminding me of my secrets. She gently put a hand on my arm, not knowing what lies beneath my shirt. I flinch and turn quickly away, she knew something was wrong. "Lily? I know something is wrong, please talk to me. You know that you can talk to me about anything." She said to me her voice full of concern as she turned me around to face her as she looked at me up close.

Her worried expression changed to anger, " Did Cam do this to you?" she asked me spinning towards the backyard. "No mom it wasn't Cam, he'd never do this to me. It was Lucas." "Lucas who and why did he leave bruises on you?" She pulled me into the garage, yelling for my dad to keep an eye on the girls. She wrapped her arms around me in a tight hug. Even though I'm a few inches taller than her, hugging her made me feel like a child again. Patiently listening to me as I to her everything that happened this semester, though I couldn't tell her everything. I wanted too but I couldn't bring my self to tell her about his threats, it would worry her too much.

So I lied to her and told her that I already took care of Lucas. I knew she was mad that it happened, she raised me to always stand up for my self, and that no man should ever lay a hand on you. It took a while for me to assure her that I was fine and that Lucas was completely out of my life. She hugged me once more, I hugged her back enjoying the feeling of safety she gave me. " I love you Lily, no matter what, always come and talk to me okay? You are not alone." She smiled at me. "I know mom thank you, please don't tell dad, it'll just make it worse. I'm just trying to move past this and start over with Cam." She smiled at me "As long as you come to me, I won't tell.  As far as I can tell everyone loves him already.  I can see he really cares for you, that's the part I like the most."

She patted me on the back as she lead me inside the house. With dinner ready, she called the boys in from the backyard. Cam came in first, smiling at me, he came right over to me and kissed me on the forehead. My mom acted like she didn't see anything, but out of the corner of my eye, I saw her smiling. Dinner was full of laughter and ease, there were no awkward silences or empty spaces. Cam fits in perfectly with my family, and everyone adored him. It was more than I could have ever dreamed of, I knew that bringing him here was a great idea.

As dinner ended we all cleaned up the kitchen and with Cams help we finished and all went into the living room. We all agreed on a movie to watch and with my parents on the couch and J.J. on the chair. Cam and I made a pallet of blankets and pillows on the floor for us and the girls. Lexi laid in between Cam and me, while Emma curled herself into my arms. Cam's arm was draped behind my head where he gently ran his fingers through my hair.

He did this throughout the movie, and when he slowly stopped I turned my head to look at him. His eyes were shut and he was fast asleep, Lexi was also asleep on his chest. While he was sleeping I took this time to look at him and really admire the man I was falling in love with. His blonde hair was sticking out all over the place from sleeping. His thick hair was soft as I ran my own fingers through it, making it stick up even worse.

While sleeping his face showed his true age, the youth coming out. He was handsome, in the best of way. He was a handsome the was wholesome and true. The pureness of him was breathtaking, he was everything I wanted in a man. His jawline was strong but not sharp, his cheekbones were high but perfectly filled out. His skin was soft and inviting. I moved my hand down from his hair to caress his cheek, feeling the softness of it under my fingertips. The freckles on his tanned skin stood out more when he was sleeping, making a subtle path under his eyes and crossing the bridge of his nose.

The longer I looked the more I fell in love with him.  Here he was, spending time with my family, making me love him more and more every day. I loved him in a way that I never could love Lucas. I loved Cam with my heart and soul, with him I could see my future, I could see my forever. Cam could be my forever, and I wanted him to be. My family loved him already, and so did I. Cam was who I wanted to be with, not Lucas.

Slowly he began to open his eyes in the dark room, he smiled at me his eyes sparkling. The movie credits rolled on screen and my parents got up from the couch and Cam and I got up from the pallet. Cam carried Lexi and I carried Emma into their room and tucked them into bed. I tucked them in and gave them both a kiss on their foreheads. We left their room and walked into the living room where J.J. and my parents said their goodnights and went to their own rooms.

Cam walked me to my bedroom, pausing right outside my door. "Thank you, Lily, for inviting me here. Your family is great, they really love you. I can see where you great your amazingness from." he said grinning at me. "Thank you for coming with me Cam, they already seem to love you."

"I sure hope they do, I plan on being around for a very long time." he bent down and kissed me on the mouth. "Goodnight sweetheart, I'll see you in the morning." and with that, he walked his way to J.J.'s room where he was staying. For the first time in weeks, I went to sleep feeling happy and safe.
