Chapter 11
Chapter 11
The night went quickly and before I knew it the alarm on my phone was going off, telling me it was time for class. In a daze I throw on some jeans and a long sleeve shirt that covers the bruises on my arms. Walking into my bathroom I look at the extent of my bruises, they run all down my left arm some are already yellowing, but the bad one on my bicep is black and blue. Lucas's whole hand wrapped around my arm, leaving the bruise in the shape of his strong fingers.
Looking at my self in the mirror I see bruises all along my jawline and cheeks. The black and blue scattered all over my face. Tears brim in my eyes threating to fall, wiping my eyes I refuse to let them fall. Last night felt like a nightmare, but it didn't occur to me how bad it was. My eyes are puffy and bloodshot from crying, the blood makes the blue in my eyes lighter, making me look like a zombie. The girl in the mirror was beaten and worn down, her blonde hair laid limply at her shoulders greasy from tossing and turning all night. The look of defeat fills her eyes, the girl in the mirror is me. She is a Lily that I have never seen before, and hope to never see again.
I cover the bruises on my face with makeup, masking the last bit of proof last night happened. I will not let this happen again. Today I will make sure Lucas understands that we are not together anymore. Gathering all of my stuff for class together, I take one last look at myself and then I'm out the door.
' Laney and I take our seats with Zack right behind us. They talk about Thanksgiving this weekend and how excited they are. Laney is driving us back home, and Zack is coming with us. I'm ready to go home and see my family and get away from Lucas for a while. Lucas walked into his classroom and the chatter stops instantly. He takes roll like normal, looking up at every student to ensure everyone is present. After roll call, he goes straight into the lecture, but his normal fire is gone. Usually, he tells quickly and excitedly about what he was teaching us, eager to relay all of the information. Today, he speaks slowly, his voice monotoned, as he reads the information off a power point.
When I let him look at him, I can see that he isn't himself. His grey eyes are almost black, with heavy bags underneath them. The suit he is wearing is wrinkled, and his curly hair is sticking up all over the place. As I studied him, I noticed that he refused to look in my direction. Maybe he understood what I was saying to him last night, that he has accepted that he and I were over. While it breaks my heart that I caused him pain, I am so happy to be free of him. He ended class with instructions for the class to read a book for his class over the break.
The class is dismissed and everyone packs up their stuff and rushed to the door, I make a break for the door trying to blend in with the rest of the class. A light touch on my arm guides me to the front of the classroom, and I know it is Lucas holding me back. Lucas waits for the rest of the students to exit the classroom before he shuts the classroom door, and just stands there looking at me.
A few seconds pass and I start to leave until he grabs hold of me and pulls me into a soft embrace. Not knowing what to do, I stand there in his arms until I feel something wet on my neck. Pulling away from him I see the tears streaming down his face. Confused, I ask him why he's crying, he uses the back of his hands to wipe the tears. "I'm so sorry Lily, last night I hurt you in a way that I never wanted to. I was up all night wondering why I hurt you like that. There's a side of me Lily that is bad, and all it wants to do is inflict pain on people. I promise you, Lily, I will never, hurt you again."
The part of me that loved him, wanted to believe him, to go and comfort him. The pain he was in, was because of me. The guilt I felt was weighing on me. I wanted to go back in time, and take back last night. I couldn't though, and I knew that this was for the best. My heart was still soft towards him, but my brain knew what had to be done.
