Chapter 10
The next few days were filled with short sweet kisses from Lucas and an immense amount of school work. The first few weeks of school were easy, but the weeks after were anything but. My full course load was starting to overwhelm me. I studied for a different test every night. The only class that wasn't piling on coursework was Lucas's. His course was simple and easy, part of me thinks it was because I was occupying all of his time. It was getting harder and harder to call him Lucas outside of class and Professor Riley inside of class. In class, he mostly treated me the same as he did every other student, but every once in a while our eyes would meet and he'd smile at me and wink. The brief touch of hands while he passed out papers was the most we ever touched while in class. Those simple touches were enough to get my heart racing, and I knew it did the same to him.
I did notice that his eyes rarely left me, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. Zack and Laney have pointed out to me that he is always watching me. During the first few days, I thought it was sweet, but others were starting to notice. I mentioned it to him, that he might need to stop before the other students catch on, but still, he watched me. I just try my best an ignore it, but even with me ignoring it, I still feel his eyes on me at every moment.
Cam and I had stayed friends and we were chosen to be partners for a project in our English class. I was pretty relieved that he ended up being my partner instead of some stranger. I tried to fight it, but my feelings for Cam just grew stronger by the day. We met on our lunch break every day to work on our project. The time that we spent together was carefree and pure bliss, Cam made me feel safe. I knew I could trust Cam, which isn't something I can say about Lucas.
So now I was torn between the two of them. I loved them both but in very different ways. Lucas is beautiful and exciting, he was forbidden, so every moment with him was an adrenalin rush. His temper though was something to be reckoned with, and his possessiveness of me was intolerable. He acted like he owned me, he tried to control my every move, I tried to see past it. I couldn't though, it bothered me so bad that it made me feel helpless and angry. That wasn't all though, Lucas sometimes scared me, when he was angry he completely changed into a monster. His anger makes him irrational and terrifying. The look he gets in his eye when he's mad leads me to think he is more dangerous than I know. Lucas's face morphs from a beautiful angel to a monster.
Cameron is nothing like Lucas, he is wholesome and kind. Cam is the type of guy that will help anyone that needs it. His blue-green eyes light up when he talks to you and he listens to what you have to say. He has a heart of gold and a smile that lights up a room. He is loved by everyone that encounters him. Where Lucas rubs people the wrong way, Cam is inviting towards everyone. Cam is someone my family would love, he reminds me of my dad. Like my dad, I know that Cam would do anything in his power to help those that need it. That quality is what makes me fall more for him every day.
Cam is made of the golden shade of sunshine that brightens and warms you. Lucas is the darkness that lurks in the corners of your nightmares and chills you to the core. Cam is supposed to just be my friend and Lucas is my boyfriend. I can't keep doing this to either of them. I love Lucas, but I can't be treated like this like he's my master. In a healthy relationship you aren't scared of your significant other, and with Lucas I am scared. So, I will have to end it with him as scary as that thought is. Lucas and I have plans to watch a movie tonight, I will have to break up with him then. No matter how hard of a decision it is, I'm relieved to have finally made one.
A few hours later there was a knock on my bedroom door. I open it, expecting to see Lucas, but instead am face to face with Cameron.
