Chapter 6
At 11:00 that night the three of us started walking towards the club, my thoughts kept going from Cam to Professor Riley when I shouldn't be thinking about either of them. One of them had a girlfriend and was supposed to be just my friend, and the other was my teacher who pushed me away. The rational part of me knew that Riley and I can't be together because he's my teacher, and because of our age difference. The other part of me thinks that maybe I'm not good enough for him, and that's why he left after our kiss.
Tonight I'm not going to think about either of them, tonight I am just going to have fun. I decided I would say hello to Cam to be polite and be friendly but tonight I am going to dance the night away with my best friends. I look over at my two best friends, thankful for them. Zack catches me smiling at him and Laney, "Are you smiling because you're getting to see Cam" he asked me with that sly smirk of his. "No actually he and I are just friends remember, but I just need this, I need a carefree night with my friends," I said right as we were walking up to the club.
The outside of the club was very plain and boring, the building was a dark grey almost black color with no windows. It had almost a box shape to it, I looked at my friends who looked to be thinking the same thing as I was. This place is a dump, I could feel all the hope and anticipation about tonight drain away. "Let's just give the inside a chance, you never judge a book by its cover, maybe it's the same with clubs," Zack said to us, trying to cheer us back up. "I mean we are already here, I guess we can give it a shot" Laney replied with a nonchalant shrug.
The inside of the club was beautiful, Zack was right, you really can't judge something for its outside appearance. This club had a grungy type feel, the type of place you could go and disappear. The room was giant with a dance floor in the center and the bar was long on the back side of the club, there were two staircases on both sides of the building that lead to the second story. There were plush couches and chairs everywhere, most were occupied by groups of people young and old. Others were looking down from the second story onto the dance floor watching people dance.
I loved it almost instantly, the smell was one of different flavored tobacco from people smoking their hookas, it was mixed with a fruity scent and the scent of actual tobacco. The atmosphere of the club was electrifying and upbeat, the dance floor was filled with different people and so was the lounge area. The lighting was dark throughout the building but the second story lounge was hued with deep reds and purples, giving it a vampy feel, and the dance floor was filled with different blues caused by the strobe lights and lasers. It was like something out of a movie, it was enchanting, when I walked into that club it felt like I could be anyone and do anything.
The D.J. started playing a remix of a popular song and I guess it was one of Zacks favorites because he pulled Laney and I onto the dance floor. Dancing has always made me feel free like I couldn't have a care in the world. I feel the music pulsing through my veins, bringing me alive. I lose my self under the lights and the sound, I close my eyes and enjoy myself. I didn't have my eyes closed for long when I felt someone watching me, I turn around looking through the sea of people and see Cam staring at me. Relief overcomes me and calms the panic that was setting in, I meet his eyes and he grins at me. I started making my way off the dance floor to go say hi when I felt a hand on my arm.
I spin around ready to punch whoever grabbed me, except it was him. Riley was here, not only here but holding onto my arm. Dressed in black ripped jeans and white v neck shirt he was almost unrecognizable, the shirt was short sleeved which exposed his fully tattooed arms that he must hide in class. He gives me a small smile showing a little bit of his beautiful smile, his blue-grey eyes shining underneath the glow of the nightclub. He beckons for me to follow him deeper into the dance floor and I follow the thoughts of Cameron disappearing the further away from him I get.
