Chapter 13
Waking up was hard, with only a few hours of sleep I felt like a zombie. Getting out of bed I feel all of the brusises from Lucas, still tender and very sore. Walking into the bathroom I aviod the mirror, I know how I look. I look tired and run down, the constant crying and lack of sleep left me with dark circles under my eyes and my blue eyes are bloodshot. The shower was a nice moment of relief, taking away the stress of Lucas if only just for a moment. The boiling hot water started to go cold, Indicating that I needed to step out, my moment of peace was over.
Going through my closet I pick a pair of dark wash jeans and throw on another long sleeve shirt, still needing to hide my bruises. I finish packing, throwing about two weeks of clothes onto my suitcase, even though I'll only be home for a week. With Cam coming with me who knows what we will decide to do. My stomach is in knots again, worrying about what Lucas might do to Cam. I can't uninvite him, but I wish I hadn't invited him in the first place. I don't want him to be in danger because of me. I think about it for a little longer, there would be no way for Lucas to know that Cam is going with me. Unless he is stalking me, which is a good possibility. I hope for the best, that Lucas isn't watching my every move, and that Cam will be safe.
I looked over my book shelve, searching for the few lucky books that I would be taking in this long drive. I discover my favorite book missing, frantic I tore apart my room looking for it. I am torn between wanting to read it, and wanting to never see it again. I once dreamed of having someone love me so much that they would do anything to have me. Now I just wish for a normal relationship, one where I can be with Cam, and Lucas would leave me alone. My choice was made for me when even after searching for it, I still couldn't find it. I sat on my bed thinking about my alternatives to take with me. Lucas had assigned for us to read a book over Thanksgiving break, and I still have to go rent it from the Library.
The thought of him made my skin crawl, but I wasn't going to let him ruin my life. I wish I could just use Laney's or Zach's but they both needed it. I look at my clock and still have time to run by and get it before Cam is here and we are ready to leave. Part of me is grateful for the chance to leave my apartment. It's starting to feel less like home and more like a prison, one that Lucas had a key to. On my way out the door, I hesitated, what if Lucas was watching me, waiting for another chance to corner me? So I asked Laney if she would go with me. After a few moments of pleading with her she finally gave in and we were on our way to the library.

I always forget how breathtaking the library is, the spiraling staircases and the blue hue of the building enchants me. Laney and I climb the stairs and head for the history section where the book I need should be. Once I locate the book Laney and I go back downstairs to check out. The librarian in charge was seated behind a long mahogany desk that looked like it belonged in a kings palace. The large desk made the Librarian look even smaller than she was. A small woman with black hair that was mixed with long streaks of silver. She wore a dress covered in pinks and purples that matched her lipstick. She was the opposite of the type of Librarian normally thought of. Instead of bringing cranky and boring, she was full of smiles and was lively as ever. Her name tag only said Bonnie, followed by smiley face stickers.
She looks at my Library card, scanning me into the system. She picks up my book, reading it before scanning it. "This book is fantastic, I personally love history. I'm guessing that you are reading it for Professor Riley's class? So many students of his have been coming in and renting it. You actually just missed him, he just left." She asked me, smiling at me in the way grandparents do. I couldn't meet her smile, my stomach turned into bricks, I felt my blood run cold. "Yes we are in his class, We are very excited to read it," Laney answered for me. Bonnie handed me back my I.D. and my book. Laney put her arm around my shoulders as we walked out of the library.
