Axel was already tipsy by the time we reached the party. He'd downed a couple of glasses of his parents 'locked away' wine and arrived at my house in a panda onesie. Talk about adorable and then talk about dumb.
I'd had Asher change him into a t-shirt and jeans of his, considering they were almost the same size and, after taking a couple of blackmail material photos of Axel, Asher had finally done it.
Now I sat in the car, hands clenched around the steering wheel and teeth sinking into my bottom lip as I stared towards the party apprehensively.
'Why is the door locked?' Axel asked confusedly, tentively touching the handle again before retreating and glaring at it from a safe distance.
Tipsy Axel was 5 year old Axel.
'You're drunk,' I chided him, trying to keep from laughing, 'if I didn't put a lock, you might've jumped outside. Like you've already tried to do, by the way.'
He simply pouted and stuck out his tongue at me, fingers brushing through the mess of hair on his head.
'Whatever,' he mumbled, 'can we go now?
'Fine,' I sighed, switching off the car and unlocking the doors before pulling out the keys. As soon as I opened the door, a blast of music and screaming people impenatrated my ears, making me flinch in surprise but making the excitement in me grow.
Jared had invited me to the party after he had dropped me off at the end of the date. He'd told me it was a gathering of the senior classes, a getaway for the night. There was a creek nearby and it had always been a popular spot with all the students. There was a campfire party tonight, with food and a fire and a nearby creek to swim in.
I loved these kinds of parties, but the thought of seeing Jared again was making me incredibly nervous. He was here already, somewhere in the crowds; earlier, he'd texted me that he'd be waiting by the fire. So that's where I would head first.
Avril and Rhea had called to tell me they were going as well and they'd meet me here so I'd grabbed Axel and come.
Speaking of Axel, he stumbled out of the car, grinning happily as he gazed over the party. 'Ready to have fun, Faye?' he laughed, turning to me and latching his arms around my waist before whisking me around. I laughed at him, 'Yeah I am. Let's go, dweeb. And put me down before you drop me.'
He set me on my feet carefully, and grabbed my hand, tugging me towards the booming music. I wonder how they'd managed to connect the speakers out in the middle of the forest.
'Can we get food first?' Axel pleaded, eyes landing on the table stuffed with delicacies, 'I'm starving.'
I shrugged, only half listening to him as my eyes scanned the crowds for a specific someone. 'Sure,' I mumbled and Axel wasted no time in bolting towards the table and grabbing a packet of crisps, before ripping them open and stuffing his face.
'Okay,' he shouted over the music, 'I'm good now.'
I let out an amused laugh, eyeing his stuffed face, 'Go have fun then,' I replied, pushing him towards the dancing crowds of kids, 'I'll catch up with you later.'
