[And So It Begins :: Hanji]

You'd been in the Survey Corps for about four years now, which was saying something. Most of your fellow trainees - over sixty percent of them, actually - had passed away within the first week, and others had continued to fade away for each fight after. Due to your luck and skill, you hadn't fallen with them. In fact, you were getting your second promotion.

Today you were moving up in ranks.

You, along with the other cadets who would be receiving a higher placement, were lined up against a wall, Commander Erwin Smith pacing in front of you for a few moments before stopping in the middle and beginning to speak.

All of the soldiers were in their presumed respectful stance as he confirmed, "You ten have shown an impressive amount of resolve to continue fighting and defeat the titans. Your progress has granted you a fruitful advance: Squad Leaders Hanji Zoe and Mike Zacharias will pick you to be a part of their squadron today."

A slight smile drifted across your face. You'd been waiting for this position, but it almost wasn't worth it, with the memories of your friends' deaths forever remaining in the back of your mind.

The boy next to you, Moblit, just looked more nervous. "I hope I'm with Squad Leader Mike," he whispered to you, "Squad Leader Hanji nearly kills herself every day with those crazy experiments."

You shrugged as the two aforementioned Squad Leaders entered, the taller of the two looking grim while the shorter wearing a big grin. "Ah, looks like you all have made it forwards!" she cheered.

Staying stiff as a board while Mike began to do his inspection, which seemed to consist of...sniffing the others...Hanji stopped for a minute when she met your eyes. Her mouth curved in a little 'ooo', and she raced up, looking you over again and again, before shouting, "You! Cadet [y/n]! Consider yourself a new member of Squad Hanji!"

You stared, dumbfounded, as she moved on to Moblit. Whereas she asked him a multitude of questions before accepting him, she'd just sort of looked at you before assigning you to her squad. Why would she do that? It didn't seem very professional.

Nevertheless, once you, Moblit, and two others named Gunther and Oluo were brought onto Squad Hanji, your new leader clapped and smiled. "I've got something I think you all will want to seeeee...follow me!"

"Oh, crap," you heard Moblit mutter.

Either way, you were interested with Hanji's antics, and were more eager to follow than any of your new teammates.
