You'd finally figured out who the culprit was. It had taken you a week of investigating, a week of the scarce clues left behind at your family's bakery, a week of piecing the information together as fast as your ten-year-old mind could go, and you'd finally figured it out.
For the past month or so, you'd noticed some of the pastries going missing. At first it was minor things - a few macaroons, maybe a cookie or two, a mini cupcake - but the things stolen had steadily grown in both size and number. Cupcakes for a birthday party, pies, an entire wedding cake...your parents had been furious, needless to say. And they'd blamed you, of course.
But you knew who it was now.
And now you were just waiting, sitting at the stool behind the counter while father operated the cash register. Your eyes were peeled for a very certain girl. Little girl, red hair, usually kept in a ponytail, around your age..was walking through the door right now.
You slid down behind the shelves of fresh pastries as your father left to consult with a client. It was just you and her. With a quick glance around the room, presumably to make sure nobody was watching, she reached out to grab a slice of the triple-fudge cake your parents had spent all night perfecting. You were quick, though, and sprung up at just the right moment, catching her arm.
She gave a little yelp of surprise.
"You're the one who's been taking all the food!" You asserted, snatching the slice of cake out of her hand.
A red tint had come across her features. "Ah...I-I'm sorry...but everything here's so...so tasty..." She had to use her only free hand to wipe away the drop of drool that had begun to slip from her lips, seemingly sorry but still clearly intending to get the cake.
"Then you should buy it, or at least ask before taking it," you fired back, voice calmer than when you'd first spoken to her, feeling oddly bad for yelling at her.
She stopped struggling for the cake and nodded slightly in agreement as her gaze fell to the floor. "Well...if it helps this time, I managed to get some money." She procured the cash from her pocket and handed it to you, more than enough to cover what she'd stolen in the past, and your eyes widened.
"-Er...jeez, this is more than enough," you murmured.
The girl shrugged. "Consider it a tip. But I really do want that cake."
"Alrighty then. Here you go, uh...ma'am."
She chuckled, taking the cake back and taking a bite, savoring the flavor before gulping it down and then informing, "My name's Sasha. And you're..." she leaned over to read your nametag, "...[y/n]. Well, [y/n], I'll be seeing you again tomorrow." Stuffing the rest of the cake in her mouth, she turned for the exit, but let another sentence slip before leaving. "Make more of this for me! It's really good!"
You sighed as the door closed with a jingle. What were you going to do with this girl?
