I open the door to my cab. I see my house. The large white colonial style house with flower boxes on each window. The large porch has now a hammock and two large chairs.
The house where I grew up in. the house where I had so many arguments with my family's out moving to LA. The house I had my first tree house. The house where I use to build forts out of pillows. The house where I acted out scenes from Shakespeare plays a million times. The house where I got my first bike. This white house with a white picket fence, a barn with animals and acres of field was my home.
I walk up the walkway dragging my 6 check-ins and 2 carry ons. I hesitate before pressing the doorbell.
"Just a minute." yells someone, I think is my mom.
The door opens and there standing there shocked is my mother. Her cheeks still rosy as I remember. Her blue eyes that we share glitter with joy and her silky white-blonde hair falling out of a messy bun.
She let out a gasp and opens the screen door and launches her petite self at me.
"Oh my lord." she says pulling back and fingering my hair. "is it really you Anna?"
"Yes mom it is me" tears are in my eyes."I'm home."
-*-
My mom brings me in after pinching herself multiple time and drags me to the warm kitchen and puts some cookies and milk I front of me.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming home." she says drying her eyes "i haven't heard from you in ages. Why are you home?"
"I needed a break but I need to go back." I say looking down at my shoes " I wanted to come back."
"Oh sweetie." she says pulling me into a hug
"So I saw in the magazines and heard from aunt Chelsea that you are dating a superstar. " she says smiling
"Um about that I broke up with him because he was cheating on me." I say with tears coming into my eyes again.
"Well than he doesn't deserve you." she says busying herself with the kettle "I still can't believe you are home! what do you want for dinner. oh my gosh we should invite everyone we know for dinner!"
"Um okay" I say even though I'm not in the mood to see people but I love to see my mom happy. "I'm gonna go out to the barn."
"Well don't wear that pretty coat out or those shoes, darling" she says dialling a number.
She looks at me with her loving eyes and softly says "your all grown up now."
I look down at my outfit. I decided to wear a Chanel trench coat, a thin T-shirt, a Prada wool scarf , Armani skinny jeans and Cole Hann wedge boots. I guess it's not expectable barn wear.
I grab a cardigan from my bag and put it on instead of my trench. I keep the boots on because I have nothing else available at the moment.
-*-
After walking over gigantic mud puddles I get to the barn. I open the door and walk in. I walk to one stall which my horse, Audrey Hepburn , use to be in but I find a baby colt instead. as cute as it is I am freaking out. I look into every stall. Audrey Hepburn isn't anywhere. I go back into the house as quick as I can.
My mom is on the phone so I wait.
"Yes I know! I can't believe it either, okay so see you at 6. good bye."
She hangs up and I burst out
"Mom where is Audrey Hepburn?"
"Anna Audrey Hepburn passed on a year ago." she says softly
" And no one told me?" I say loudly almost yelling
" You were filming." she says calmly.
" I know but still." tears start rolling down my cheeks
She pulls me into a hug.
"This trip was suppose to make me less depressed not more" I think in my head.
