"Zinn?" I was being shook. "Zinn, come on." It was Damien.
I open my eyes to him extremely close to my face. "What are you doing?" I ask.
"Trying to wake you up." He laughs. "Look!"
I sit up and rub my eyes. I then look where Damien was pointing.
"This is why I love this tree." The stars are outrageously beautiful! Each one seemed to be a different color, like polar-white and silver. They were scattered around the sky like moon dust. I know I sound crazy, but the stars are my favorite thing ever. They're always there sparkling to make anyone happy, no matter how bad their day was. They're incredible.
"Wow." I whisper.
"This is the only place in this part of the mountain that you can actually see the stars. Otherwise, there are too many trees or too much light from the city."
I look at him. He's so sweet. He's literally smiling at the stars like they're the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
"Yeah." I say, still looking at him. "It's gorgeous. You have an eye for a good star watching spot." The crap, Zinn? Star watching spot? The hell is that?
He laughs and looks at me. "I guess I do."
"Why do you love the stars so much?" I ask to keep the conversation going.
He looks back up at them. "They're so mysterious and beautiful. They're always different, but always there."
I smile at him, and he smiles back. "I know." He says. "I'm crazy and that makes no sense."
"No!" I scoot closer to him. "No, it's cute."
He looks at me and our faces are closer than ever. At first he was staring me back in my eyes, but then his eyes moved down to my lips and I knew that this was it. I was going to finally kiss him. I'm not sure what to do? Should I lean in or wait and let him do it? Where do I put my hands? Where does he put his hands? Screw it. I don't care.
"Damien?" A voice calls from behind him, stopping whatever was about to happen.
"Jaley!" He jumps up.
Are you freaking kidding me?
Jaley looks down at me, then back at Damien. "What were you guys doing?"
"We were just – "
"Dugger wants you guys home." She interrupts. "Lymiex is also upset because you guys should've been home hours ago." She begins to walk away.
"Jaley, stop!" He runs after her. "Jaley, I know you're mad!"
I watch as the two walk away, Damien pathetically trying to talk to her. Of course out of anyone who could have come out here, it was freaking Jaley: the girl he is obsessed with.
For a second there, I thought he had forgotten about Jaley. I thought he could actually like me? But, whatever. I was obviously wrong.
"Freak." I say standing up and brushing the dirt off of me. "Thanks for waiting for me." I say to myself. I then proceed to walk home by myself. In the dark. Alone. Good thing nothing is trying to kill me.
Ha-ha.
What am I saying? I'm bad ass. I'd take that fothermucker down.
"Zinn!" Marah greets me on the porch. "Look what Dugger got me!"
