Chapter 23

"She's a demon!"

"She's going to lead Emma back here!"

"If she could enter, imagine what other monsters will come!"

"You're leading us all to death!"

"YEAH!"

"She needs to DIE!"

Jaley stood on the stage looking like a goddess in her red dress taking all of that without batting an eye. She wasn't fazed by the hate she was receiving. She seemed to be taking it okay, but then again its Jaley. You can never tell with her. She probably isn't even listening, honestly.

"We are taking care of it." Nalsa speaks up. "Emma will not return."

"WHEN WILL YOU TAKE CARE OF IT?!" A woman yells. "By the time she's taken our families and have them for her dinner?"

"Before she leads all of her kind back to us?"

Jaley begans to react to the people. She looked down at her hands and sighed. She's been through enough.

"She needs to die!"

"KILL HER!"

"OKAY!" I scream. "Okay." Everyone stood silent. All are astonished that I spoke up with such rage. Before now, I haven't said anything because Nalsa seemed to have it under control, but she stepped back when I stepped forward.

"If anyone is to harm Jaley they will have me to deal with." I inform them.

"Yeah, self-defense." A man yells. "She'll eat us."

"If even a wrong look, whisper, touch, or anything that upsets her happens, I will not hesitate to-"

"Feed us to her?" a big, red headed man in the front interrupts me and laughs. "She needs to die."

I glare at him as he bumps his friends next to him trying to get them to join him in laughter; they don't. They are all frozen staring at me. Finally, he feels my stare stabbing into his eyes and looks at me.

"What is your name?" I ask.

"Uh," he stutters. "Trumen."

"And what do you do?"

"I make food at one of the restaurants in Woodland."

"Do you have family?"

"Yes, a wife and two girls."

I turn and grab a knife out the pocket of one of the castle guards. I then step down one step on the giant stairs that lead to the castle doors to be closer to the man. "What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you?"

He shrugs. "I don't know. Not much has happened to me before."

"Nothing traumatic?"

"No."

I step closer to him. "Look to that women right there." I point to a girl about my age next to him. "Do you know her?"

He shakes his head. "No."

"Tell me her name." I demand.

"I just told you I don't know who she is, lady."

"Queen!" Nalsa yells from behind me.

He begins to shake with fear. "Queen." He corrects himself.

"What's happened to her?"

"I do not know, Queen."

"Right. Because you don't know her." I step down the last step and stand directly in front of him and hold out the knife I took. "Kill her."

The crowd begins to shout with anger. The girl next to me tries to run, but I grab her arm and hold her in place.

The man looks at me in fear. "Hell no!" he yells. "She's never done anything to me."

I release the girl and nod. I turn and look back at Jaley and ask, "What's her name?"

"Who? The vampire? I don't know."

"What's happened to her?"

"I don't know!"

"You don't know her, correct?"

"No!"

"So, why do you want to kill her?"

"Because she'll kill me."

"You don't know that."

"Yes I do."

"How?"

"Because she's a vampire!"

"Okay."

"Okay?"

"The women you refused to kill has as much capability to kill you as the vampire does. But, you won't kill her? She could shoot you in the head right now. Why not kill her before she kills you since that's your logic?" I ask him. "In fact, why not take this knife and kill me or even Queen Nalsa? She's more powerful than anyone here? Why don't you fear her killing you?"

The man looks around; embarrassed. Everyone stares at me with fear of moving a muscle. I like this. I like this power.

I walk back up the stairs. "Jaley will not be harmed, verbally or physically, as long as I am Queen and vice versa. This gathering is over.  Go home!" I grab Jaley and Marah and ignore the angry crowd behind me as I enter my castle. This Queen thing might actually be fun.
