Night time here is just as beautiful as daytime. The moon is ten times bigger than in the real world. I assume wherever we are is closer to it. I wanted to go outside to look at the sky, but the guards said it would be safer for me to stay inside while the citizens get used to me. So, outside my window is good for now.Marah is curled up in a ball up against my side. Jaley is zonked-out in the other bed a crossed the room. I've been trying to sleep but there's too much going on for me to do that. All I can think about is how today went. They're scared of Jaley and want her gone, and I understand. I know that sounds horrible, but I do. They don't know her, but they know what she is and what she is can be terrifying. Especially since she is technically a descendant from Emma and Emma scarred them all. She's not leaving, though. She will stay here with me.
"Zinn?" A whisper echoes through the crack of our halfway shut door. I can tell its Nalsa by the sound of her voice, so I carefully get up and tiptoe to her.
"What's up?" I whisper back.
"Come with me." She begins to walk down the hall outside our door and to the staircase. She points upwards then says, "You'll love this." And begins to run up the stairs.
After climbing up what felt like a never-ending staircase, we reach the very top.
"We took a break from working on your room to make you this." Nalsa opens a door to a giant room. It's basically a huge circle with a clear roof. The floor isn't a floor, it's just a big bed!
I smile. "What is this?"
"Do you like it?"
"Um, yes!" I laugh.
"Marah told me that you really love the sky. So, I took it upon myself to give you a nice, private room where you can look at the stars, clouds, moon, whatever you choose."
"How did Marah know I love the sky?"
"That child is very observant and idolizes you, Zinnia."
I shake my head in disbelief. "It's amazing!"
"I hope you don't mind waiting a little longer for your rooms." She laughs.
"Not at all." I walk in all of the way and dive onto the bed. Lying flat on my back, I watch as the star's twinkle. Looking at the sky reminds me of Damien. I haven't really allowed myself to think about him or Mae. I am heartbroken about their deaths, but i'm also in denial that it happened. I'm sure that soon it will hit me and it won't be easy.
Nalsa lies down beside me. "I got you up to show you this, but I also wanted to talk to you."
"Is something wrong?"
She giggles. "Is anything ever right?" she sighs. "I just want you to enjoy your life here. You have a long time here and I want you to do it right."
"Am I in trouble for what I did to that man today?"
"Honey, you're the Queen. You can't get in trouble." she says. "Is it what I would have done? No."
"So, was it the wrong thing to do?"
"I believe you found the way you would like to rule. It's not how I did things, but it worked. You got the point across."
"Yeah. I guess people are just going to have to get used to my way of ruling."
"Zinnia, your way of ruling is exactly like your mothers." She smiles. "Poppy was harsh, but also the kindest Queen this world has ever had. She got things done and did not put up with anyone's crap. She knew her power and she never abused it. I just wish she would have finished out her reign as Queen."
