We drove for an hour before any of us could see the city. I had been in the city countless times with my cousins. This time was different. It was usually full of loud noises and cars honking. There was no noises, no movement, and no people to be seen. The streets were empty. As we strolled through the city streets we could see the morning sunlight shining off the skyscrapers. It looked like they glowed as we went by. In the distance, we could see St. Louis' best known landmark. The Gateway Arch. The sunlight gleamed off of it like a large mirror. We kept driving until we reached a park where I used to play with my cousins. They lived right next to the park in a two story house. It was a good neighborhood. Looking at the park now, made me realize how much I had grown. The little swings gently swung in the breeze.
"There's the house." I said to Ben. He pulled the truck over and Me and Aaron got out. I walked to the back of the truck and opened the trunk. Inside, laid the metal case that held the Antidote injection. I grabbed it and slammed the trunk shut with my free hand.
"Come on." I said to Aaron. We approached the front door and I reached out to grab the doorknob. I grabbed it and tried to open the door. It wouldn't open, so I guessed it was locked.
"We need another way in" Aaron said walking away from the door. I followed him and saw a window on the second floor.
"We can get in that window." I said pointing at the window.
"How do we get up there?" He asked. There was a drain pipe that went up right next to the window.
"We climb the drainpipe. I'll go first." I said stepping towards the bottom of the pipe. I grabbed on and started pulling myself up. About 30 seconds later, I was right next to the window. It was closed so I decided to just break the glass. Not letting go of the pipe with my right hand, I turned my head and looked down at Aaron who was 9 feet below.
"Throw me a rock so I can break this window." I called down to him. He nodded and bent over to grab a rock. Once he found one, he looked straight at the window.
"I can hit it from here. Just let me throw it at the window." He called up at me.
"I know you can hit it, But if I have the rock, I can just hit the rock on the window until it breaks. And I can break any glass that would cut me." I replied. He tossed the rock up and I caught it in my left hand. I pulled my arm back and swung it at the window. The window instantly broke and shattered onto the ground below. I tapped any sharp remaining glass until it fell out. Then, I dropped the rock and grasped the ledge of the window. I let go of the pipe and hung from the broken window. I pulled as hard as I could and forced myself up and inside the window. It was dark and quiet in the house. I had landed in the upstairs bathroom. I stood up and poked my head out of the window.
"I'll unlock the door." I Said out the window. I turned around and walked to the bathroom door. I opened the door and could see nothing. The power must've gone out, I thought to myself. I felt the wall that led down the hallway to the stairs. I inched my way down the hallway in complete darkness. I had memorized the house before and knew where I was going. Once I ran into the railing that led down stairs, I carefully walked down and returned to the wall. I kept moving down the hallway but tripped on something that was laying on the floor. I fell onto my stomach and laid there for a minute. I stood back up and ignored whatever I had tripped on. I turned left and found the front door. I felt around until I found the lock. I twisted it and heard a click, so I opened the door and was instantly blinded by the light. I had been walking in darkness for only 5 minutes and wasn't prepared for the light. When my eyes adjusted, Aaron was standing in front of me with the metal briefcase.
"We need a flashlight." I said looking towards the truck. He ran back to the truck and found a flashlight in the glovebox. He brought it back and handed it to me. I pressed the little button and the light popped on. I shined it into the house. Aaron made sure to stay right behind me when we entered. I wanted to go back and see what I tripped on so we took a left and I shined the flashlight down the hallway. There on the floor was Luke. He was laying on his back in the middle of the hallway. He was right next to his bedroom so I handed the flashlight to Aaron and I went to him. He was heavier than me but I managed to drag him into his room. I couldn't lift him so I just sat him up against the wall of his room. I would come back for him. But Ty was my main priority. I left Luke's room and shut the door. We continued down the hallway until we got to Ty's room. I tried the door but, He always keeps his door locked. Before I could ask Aaron to go look for the key, he charged at the door, breaking it down
.
"That's one way of doing it." I said as Aaron stood up. He shined the flashlight into the room. I found Ty at his desk, with his head hanging down."That him?" Aaron asked.
"Yep, this is Ty. Let's open that case and get the injection." I said turning to Aaron. He released to clips and the case opened. Inside was a shot and a little container. In the container was a glowing pink liquid. The same liquid was in the shot. I picked up and approached Ty. I grabbed his arm and flipped it over so I could find a vein. Once I was sure of where I had to inject him, I stabbed the needle into the spot and injected all of the antidote into his bloodstream. I pulled it out and stepped back. I expected some crazy thing to happen but Ty didn't move. The Antidote wasn't good enough. He was still asleep. Why did this happen?, I wondered to myself. Then Ty's eyes opened.
