Chapter XII

The Past Winter

"December is finally on foot!" David excitedly said to Toby as they chat on facebook. "Yeah our weather shall be as sweet as cool air :)" he replied. Right after he said, cool air swept into their house. He regret what he replied to Dave. He immediately went upstairs, changed his clothes to sleeping attire, then went back to his laptop to get busy with his facebook.

The consecutive weeks from late november to early december were somehow good and somehow bad for him. Bad for it recently happened, their day of judgement where it happened on the second week. Good because he thought he was accomplishing in comforting one girl.

Toby logged out from facebook. He went out to get some air. He checked his phone and there were two messages in it. Both from 8888 where he was reminded that his promo, which is unli text and call, was on due. He quickly  grabbed fifty pesos from his wallet then he went to a small store to load up his phone. He requested twenty-five pesos load for his phone while another twenty-five pesos for the girl whom he was comforting that time. 

He used his promo, then he texted that girl if she already received her load. She replied with a yes and then she thanked Toby for that. He group messaged everyone about a quote. three replied, one was Gwen, the other was Dave, then the girl. He was busy texting the other two then he forgot the girl. After two hours, he texted the girl.

"Sorry for replying late, yeah you're right about your message." Toby said.

The girl didn't reply. After two hours a new text message bothered Toby while he was playing computer game, and it was the girl. He read the message saying, "Slr too I was reading a book.". 

"What book are you reading?" Toby asked.

"It's about..." The girl replied.

"Oh really? I'll search that on my phone."

"Sorry if it kills your time, took me a while to finish reading it."

"It's boring anyways, so I'll kill most of my time reading this, then we could share stories when we go back to school next year."

"Yeah."

"So what are you doing right now?"

"Guarding our store."

"Oh you manage a store?! That's shocking!"

"Haha What did you think of me? Poor one?"

"No! That's great!"

"It wasn't great for me..."

"Haha. Why?"

"Because I said so..."

"Oh okay then, sorry to disturb you."

"It's alright."

Toby stopped texting her. He was reading an article on google when someone called, it was Dave. He answered the phone.

"Hello." Toby said.

"Dude she texting ya?" Dave asked.

"A while back." Toby said.

"Oh okay then, sorry for the disturbance, bye."

"Bye."

Toby wondered why Dave called. He continued on reading google article about a dispute in the middle-east. He sighed on what he just read. It was late night when a message bothered his sleep. It was about her.

"Hey still awake?" She asked

"Nope I'm sleeping." Toby replied.

"Oh sorry for that."

"It's fine."

Toby continued sleeping when another message bothered him. It was a group message from Mandy. He sighed and then went back to sleep. He slept being embraced by the cold wind. The next morning, he got some cold but it went away easily. It was so cold at his room so he went out immediately towards his dining room. He got his phone and he checked for new messages. No one texted. 

Suddenly a phone call distracted him from watching TV. He answered David's call. At the same time he was having a call with someone else. 

"Why did you call?" Toby asked.

"Wanna have conference call with her? she's still on hold." Dave said.

"It's alright." 

He unholded the other one. It was her.

"Welcome to the first conference call! Hehehe" David said excitedly.

"Hey there Toby." The girl said.

"Oh it's you, Natalie." Toby said.

They had a good conversation with each other. Toby got his guitar and he sang his song. They had a fun time calling each other. Toby thought that he found his real happiness with them. Time flows through the cold December where they spend money on loading their phones to call each other.
