On Stage

Toby went home sadly. He just couldn't accept what Wyonne said a while ago. He felt bad about it. He went to bed immediately.

'What if she was telling the truth? Is she tired of me? Well she had many boyfriends already. What if it is not... true love?' Toby thought.

'Damn it! I won't be able to survive these problems lately.'

He then decided to pray. To pray for his somehow success this day for accelerating and to pray that God will help him solve his problems. He then went to sleep.

Toby's mom woke him up. He wore his best uniform. He and his mom went together. They went to school. Toby observed that the surroundings that he passed by were so quiet.

They went to school. It was saturday that time. Toby saw many ushers and usherettes including some of his classmates. They all guided the visitors who will come to the gym for the awarding ceremony.

"Mom I'll go to my seat now. You know what to do." Toby said to his mom.

"K." His mom said.

'Sheesh as always...' Toby thought.

He went to his designated seat. He saw Matthew and greeted him hi. He greeted back at him. He saw Matthew playing monster hunter so he decided to change seats first. They discussed about it.

"So how's the situation?" Toby asked.

"I'm very happy bro!" Matthew said with joy.

"Great! Great for you..."

"How about you?"

"Here, I think it's just a little bit messy for now. Hahahaha don't bother with me, I'm just fine here."

"You sure? I observe that you're not getting along, are you?"

"Yeah. A little. But I'll try to fix it."

"Well, goodluck with that I guess."

"Yea sure thanks. I'll go back to my seat now."

"Okay. See ya."

"Dude come on it's just over there."

"Hahahaha okay."

They were a bit early since many of the awardees didn't come yet. The music was played already. The gym was starting to be crowded. Ten minutes had passed and then the gym was crowded already.

Toby looked for Mandy. As he searched for her, he was reminded of what Wyonne said to him yesterday. Should he continue to look for her?

"Hello. Where are you?" Toby texted to her.

She didn't reply back. Toby was a bit worried because the program had begun. He saw Gregor coming to his seat with Flora and Molly.

Time passed by and still Mandy's seat was vacant. He checked his phone and yet there's no reply. It was already the time for third year awardees to come.

He looked for Mandy at the back and there she is. He tried to get her attention. She looked at him. He smiled back at her but she snobbed him. He felt bad about it.

They went to stage. Their proud parents can be seen in a distance. The Masters of Ceremony announced their names and their parents took their certificates.

Toby didn't feel any honor going to stage. What's with the award if our purpose is to learn? Toby wondered about it. Well, some parents take their children to push harder than their limits in order to get awards until time comes when the children too are bound by greed that they force themselves to excel.

Toby too was almost bound by greed until he realized that learning is already enough, but it doesn't make him lazy to study though. Some students take the awards as proof to make their parents proud which is why it is very honorable for them.

He didn't know if he was used to get awards all the time or he just came into realization as long as he can still see that his parents were proud, he continues to study hard.

His dad always tells him "Just think positive and you'll get positive results son."
