True Happiness

It was fifth of January, the day before classes, that changed Toby's lifestyle for two weeks. That day was so shameful of him that he cannot accept what really happened, their last and shameful conference call. The call that shattered his belief of true happiness among them three. It was the call that saddened him.

That night, David called him. Toby answered his call.

"So this will be our last conference call. Can't call this week. Test is coming." David said.

"Man I need to sleep but it's okay. We need to cherish it." Toby said.

"Are you ready Tobias?"

"If that's what you're asking for, then I am ready."

David held Toby's call then he tried to call Natalie. She answered then he unheld Toby.

"This is it, our last conference call. We need to say everything now. Natalie is there anything you want to say?" David said.

"First of all I would like to thank you guys for all your funny, foolish calls. That's all." Natalie said.

"I would like to thank you guys especially Toby for giving me this type of fun that completed my christmas. Again, thank you." David said.

Toby was akwardly silent that time. It took one minute before David was forced to ask him on what he will say.

"Nothing." Toby said softly.

"Toby I think you need to say it." David said.

"I can't." Toby said.

"Hey hey what are you guys hiding again from me?" Natalie asked.

"Nat, can we hold your phone first?" Toby asked.

"Not again." Natalie said.

David held her call. Then they both talked.

"Take a deep breath Toby, world ain't gone mad just speak it out." Dave said.

"I am afraid of what will happen." Toby said.

"Are you afraid of saying it?"

"Like I said, I am fraid of what will happen."

"I also went on the path of love and fear Toby. At first, I admitted everything to Madeline. It was a valiant rejection for me. I accepted it all the way."

"Come on David you're making it worse."

"Trust me brother. It'll help."

"I think I am not yet ready."

David accidentally unheld Natalie.

"You done guys? Mad girl's mad here." Natalie said.

"Come on Natalie, wait for a little bit." David said.

"I am about to disconnect here."

"Just a bit." Toby said.

Again, David held her call.

"Sorry bro, I accidentally unheld her." David said.

"Dude I really can't." Toby said.

"Why can't you?"

"It is hard."

"Dude you need to. You can't hide that forever."

"I..I'll try."

David unheld Natalie. Toby took a deep breath and then he released his words with shivering voice. Natalie didn't understand since his voice was very soft. He uttered his words again. She paused for a while and then she replied. Toby knew what will happen so he accepted it with pain. He disconnected himself for a while then he reconnected. She asked him if he's alright, then he said yes without hesitation.

After their last conference call, Toby couldn't sleep. David and Natalie gave enough happiness that satisfied his christmas, but that vanished right after the call. He couldn't help himself that night.

Days of January passed by, until he realized as he saw Matthew trying to effort on her.

One day, Matthew brought his Playstation Portable playing monster hunter portable 3rd. Toby looked at his psp while he played during break time. Toby earned his courage to ask his old friend. He took a deep breath, then he asked him.

"You use switchaxe?"

"Yeah. You play this one too?" Matthew asked.

He was surprised. He thought he will be ignored.

"Yeah, but it's an emulator in my laptop." Toby replied.

"Really? That's cool! We can play sometime you know?" Matthew said with a smile.

"Let me see if pc-psp would do."

Toby started the topic that brought back their broken friendship. They always talk about games that would relate them both. One day, Toby saw his effort, though the odds were greatly against him since many don't agree in bringing Natalie back, Toby decided to help him.

"Mat, what will you do on valentines day?" Toby asked.

"I'll invite her out." Matthew said.

"Want some help in bringing her back?" Toby said with a smile.

"Really!!?? I'd appreciate it bro! Thank you!!"

Toby heard him calling him "bro". He was surprised again. He didn't know that he will be very happy. That day he experienced his true happiness, and he will never forget that.
