Paul takes Evelyn to his house. She has been there so she felt at home a bit.Paul was a bit worried about Evelyn. He thought that it was odd that she didn't tell Dan what happened.
"Evelyn. Did something happen with you and Dan?" He asked.
"Not....really."
"You want to tell me what happened?"
She sighed.
"I found out that he's been skipping work to just hangout with Cari. Yuma's sister."
"Ouch. And your mom doesn't get paid that much. With him not working, there isn't a lot of food going on the table. Right?"
She nods.
"And he knows that. I didn't know what was going on in his head." She said.
"I'm sorry Evelyn. But that's life."
"I hate it. If I hadn't have started duelling I never would've met Yuma, and his family! Then Dan never would have met Cari!"
"Evelyn, you can't blame duelling. You love it."
"I don't care. I blame duelling!" She crosses her arms and turns to the window.
"Evelyn..."
After some more minutes of silence Paul parks in his driveway. They both get out and walk to the house.
Paul lives alone. With a cat.
Evelyn has clothes and stuff in a spare room upstairs. So does Dan.
They kept their stuff there from other times they were there. They thought they might as well keep stuff there, they go there all the time, and always would. They were right.
Raven always worked late when they were younger. She got Paul to take them for the night. They always had fun with Paul. They would duel for hours, eat lots of junk food, and stay up late. Paul always tried to keep them up late, so they would sleep in.
But lately, they're old enough to stay home on their own.
They walk inside. Evelyn heads upstairs.
"Are you going to come down later?" He asks.
"I doubt it." She stops.
"Come on. Let's do something before your brother gets here. You can't be in your room all day."
"I could, but right now you're stopping me." She said with attitude.
"Evelyn..."
They looked at each other for a while. Evelyn was thinking what she should do.
"Fine. What can we do?"
"What you want."
She thought again.
"Scrabble." She said.
He nods and leaves to go get it. Evelyn headed to the dinning room and took a seat at the table.
Paul came back and they set up the board. They picked their pieces and started.
Evelyn was winning. She couldn't beat Paul very often when she was younger. But now she can.
They're playing peacefully. Until the front door opened.
Evelyn tenses up and looks up as Daniel walks through the door way and stops.
"Hey. How you doing?" He asked nicely.
She turned her head away.
"Fine." She replied.
"Evelyn. You sure?"
"I'm fine Daniel! Just leave me alone!" She got up and walked past Dan.
"Eve, let's talk." Dan suggested, following her to the stairs.
"I don't want to! And stop calling me Eve!!"
"Daniel. Just leave her." Paul said.
Daniel sighed and headed back to the dinning room while Evelyn headed to her room.
*******
"What!?" Cari yelled.
"Yeah. Their mom just passed out." Yuma said.
"Oh dear. I hope Evelyn and Daniel are going to be okay." Haru said.
"Yeah. Especially when Evelyn's mad at him." Said Yuma.
"What?" Haru was shocked.
"Yeah. I don't know why."
"Man. Maybe that's why he's not talking to me. He might be mad too." Cari thought.
"I doubt it. Dan wouldn't get mad at her. He cares about her a lot."
"Huh. Then I don't know. But I do know you need to get to bed." Cari said.
"Fine." Yuma headed to his hammock.
When he gets settled, Astral comes out of the key.
"Yuma. Astrid tells me that Evelyn is upset. She doesn't know how to help her. Do you know anything?"
"All I know is that she's mad at her brother and her mother just went to the hospital. Astrid can't do much to help Astral." Yuma explains.
"I see."
They stay silent, and soon Yuma fell asleep and Astral left.
