Chapter #22

They stopped at the last door.

"Here."

"Thanks."

She left and Dan opened the door. He saw Evelyn tossing and turning groaning. Her eyes were closed so she didn't see him walk in.

"Make it stop! Make it stop!"

Daniel crouched beside the bed and grabbed her arm. She looked at him.

"Dan."

"Hey. You doing okay?"

"No! I want it to stop!"

"Shhhh. You're wearing yourself out."

She turned onto her side facing Dan.

"You're shaking less. That's good."

"Dan....I'm so tired."

"That's okay."

"But....I can't sleep. Not....not like this."

"Evelyn, I'm sorry. We should have found you faster."

"It's not....your fault. I challenged him."

"Why? What were you thinking?"

"I.....thought you weren't coming. I thought.....I could duel our way out."

"Why wouldn't I come for you? You're my sister. I love you. I would never leave you even if you were mad at me, or I was mad at you. Never."

Tears started forming in her eyes.

"Dan...." She sobbed. She started crying.

"Hey. Shhhh. Shh. Shhhh." He sat on the bed and stroked her arm, she winced.

"Don't....leave....me....Daniel. Don't....ever....go." She sobbed.

"I won't. I never will."

He got up and made Evelyn sit up. Daniel sat behind her and she laid down on his lap. He stroked her head and cheek. He kept her calm as much as he could, since she was still in pain. He stayed there the rest of the day, and night.

Paul left after seeing them and Raven.

Evelyn got to sleep hours and hours later but, she still tossed and turned, whimpering in her sleep.

Dan didn't sleep that night. He stayed awake watching over Evelyn.

The next morning Evelyn didn't wake up. Daniel was worried and tried multiple times to wake her. But she didn't.

3 days later.

Evelyn slowly opened her eyes. Her vision was a bit blurry and she saw a dark figure.

"Huh?"

Her vision cleared.

"Dan?"

"Oh my god. You're awake. I was so worried. I thought you wouldn't wake up."

"Where....where am I?"

"Where you were before, the hospital. Do you not remember anything?"

"I.....I remember a duel. I was in so much pain. A face......Tony!"

"Hey! Calm down."

"But I..need to know!"

"Yuma checked to see if he was okay, and he is. Along with his sister."

She sighed in relief.

"I'm glad you're okay Tony."

"Oh. Here." He reaches in his pocket and pulls out her key.

"My key!? You have it?"

"Yeah. I found it. Take it."

She reaches out her hand and takes it. She holds it to her chest. Dan then helps put it on her.

"You know, I can see Astrid."

"What!? When!?"

"The day before we found you."

"Oh, wow."

"Okay? Get some rest."

"Okay." She closed her eyes with a deep breath.

"That's it. Now get some sleep. Maybe tomorrow you can get out." He said softly.

She smiled and rolled onto her side, and fell asleep.

Two days later Evelyn and Raven got out of the hospital. Evelyn was better enough to go to school that day. But Dan said to take it easy and no duels. She didn't argue.

Evelyn walks into the school grounds and looks around. She was happy to be back.

"Evelyn! Hey!"

She turned around and saw Yuma running over.

"Yuma." She muttered.

He stopped in front of her, panting slightly.

"You're okay."

"Yeah. Thanks to you."

"What?"

"Yeah. You really helped me Yuma. I'm so thankful I have you as a friend. Through the tough times you were there. I just wanted to say....thank you."

"Evelyn.....It was nothing. I'm just happy you're back. And you and Dan made up."

She smiled.

"But you know Yuma, I'm still tired. And when I am, I'm not my normal self. So wait until tomorrow and the old Evelyn will be back. So made sure you here all the nice things about yourself."

He laughs, and she laughs. Then the bell rings and they head of to class.
