"That's enough of that," Morgause said absently, waving a hand at them while still reading the letter. "You two need to get a room..."

"I was about to tell you about the dragon!!" Arthur cried.

"Well, you should have answered me earlier..." Morgause sighed. "I didn't mean to stab his stupid eye."

"But you-" Arthur began furiously, but the guard who had been holding Merlin kicked him.

Morgause's eyes were still fixed on the letter, reading quickly, a grin growing on her face.

"It seems that my spy has dealt with your absence most adequately," she told them. "Uther has been told that you have ridden with your servant to the South Lands, to ask for King Ison's daughter's hand in marriage, therefore forming an allegiance with their kingdom. You didn't tell your father because you wanted to surprise him, and you will be back soon enough. Uther is delighted." Morgause laughed. "Oh, it's all so easy! You, girl, what's your name?" She had turned to the young messenger.

The girl had been watching Merlin and Arthur with horror, clearly shocked at what was obviously torture.

"E- Emily," she told Morgause in a shaking voice.

"Right, well, Emily, you can send this reply back to Camelot, if you wouldn't mind," Morgause said as she quickly scribbled on the back of the letter. "And if you breath a word of what you have seen here today I'll wrip your throat out, okay?"

Emily nodded, and, white faced, took the letter from Morgause and ran from the room.
