The celebration never died down in the campsite. Everyone was singing and dancing their hearts out over the victory win. Estella stood next to Cedric in the entrance of their tent while they smiled at the sight in front of them.
"Do you think we will be able to sleep tonight?" Cedric asked.
"Of all things a person can do, that's probably the last thing that can happen," Estella answered.
Next thing they knew, a high-pitched scream broke out in the campsite. Another one soon followed. The two kids looked at each other before Mr. Diggory rushed between them to get outside. Amos walked back in while pushing the two by the shoulders.
"What's going on?" Cedric asked.
"We're being attacked," Amos replied while quickly grabbing things.
"By who?" Estella asked.
Before she could receive an answer, more screams filled the air. Except they were closer now.
"I'm going to go help the ministry. You two go into the woods and wait until I come," Amos said.
"Father-" Cedric started.
"Go!" Amos interrupted.
With that, Estella and Cedric ran out of the tent to be met with chaos. Tents were on fire, screams came from every direction, and some people were floating in the air with wizards in hooded cloaks holding their wands up underneath them.
"Death Eaters," Estella said with a shocked look on her face. She grew very scared in that moment and couldn't move.
"Estella, we have to go," Cedric said, grabbing her hand and taking off for the woods.
Estella let her feet follow, but her mind was filled with the memory of her encounter with a death eater. She snapped out of it when she realized that Cedric had let go of her hand. Her eyes shifted to the boy being bombarded by the large crowd of people running in all sorts of directions. The golden boy called out her name and tried to reach his hand back out, but he was being pushed away. Estella tried to find him. She called out his name over and over, but she was now lost and alone.
After stumbling out of the crowd, she found herself near the woods. She saw other wizards and witches run in for shelter. Maybe Cedric made his way to the woods already, she thought. What if he did not? How would she know? The woods could be bigger than they seem. What if death eaters were waiting in the woods as well? What if they got Cedric? Or Mr. Diggory?
All of these thoughts made her panic. Then she felt two hands on her shoulders, so she screamed and jumped to turn around to see Draco.
"It's just me, it's okay, it's just me," the boy said quickly with a comforting voice.
"Draco, I-Cedric, he was supposed-I," Estella tried to say but could not. She didn't realize she had been crying until she felt a hint of salt on her tongue.
"Shh, just breathe okay?" Draco soothed while pulling the girl into his arms. Estella took a breath and tried to calm down. Amongst the loud madness, she could hear Draco's heart beating in his chest. She wondered how he was so calm but then realized it did not matter because it was truly helping her.
When she felt his hand rub her back, she also felt a storm of roses hit her cheeks. Here she was, standing in the middle of a death eater attack, in the arms of a boy that she hated not that long ago. Out of slight embarrassment, she pulled away.
"Better?" Draco asked rubbing her shoulders while smiling softly.
"Yeah, thank you," Estella replied keeping her head down so that the platinum haired boy would not see the apparent blush on her face.
"Did Cedric leave you alone?" the boy asked with a frown.
"No, he was pulled away with the crowd. Me and him were supposed to go the woods to wait for his father. I don't understand what's happening. Why here? Why now?" Estella said, starting to panic again.
"It'll be okay, Estella. I won't let anything happen to you, I promise," Draco said, quickly reassuring her. Estella looked into Draco's eyes. He was genuinely sincere and meant what he said. It immediately brought comfort to her mind and heart.
"Come on, I'll take to the woods. I'm sure Cedric will find his way," Draco said, grabbing Estella's wrist. The two then proceeded into the woods, away from the attack.
"This is a good spot. It's not to far from the campsite. You'll be able to see who's coming before they can see you."
"You're not leaving me, are you?"
"Listen, you're going to be alright. I have to...go find my father. I meant it when I said that no one will hurt you."
"Draco, please."
This struck a chord in the boy's heart. He looked into the girl's pleading and frightened eyes and felt more quilt than he was feeling before. He didn't want to leave her. He didn't even want her to be here at all. If he could, he would take her far far away from this catastrophe. He had never felt that way before and though the feeling was new to him, he held onto it.
"Hey, I have to have some kind of story to tell you. You know, one about how I defeated death eaters and all," He said, trying to lighten the mood.
Estella did not want to protest any longer, so she gave a small smile and rolled her eyes. The boy chuckled softly at that.
"You'll be okay," Draco said before turning to go back to the campsite.
Estella sat against a tree for what seemed like hours. She worried about Cedric and wondered about the Weasleys and their group. Were they alright? Where were they?
Eventually, Estella heard her name being called, along with the sound of footsteps. She quickly got up and looked to see Cedric running.
"Cedric!" She shouted as she ran towards him. The two hugged and sighed breaths of relief.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt? Did a death eater get you?" Estella asked quickly.
"I'm fine, I'm okay," The golden boy laughed lightly because of his friend's motherly worried state.
"I'm just glad you're okay. Let's go find my father, yeah?" Cedric continued.
When the other witches and wizards found each other and Estella found out what had truly happened, she was filled with comfort and a little bit of fear. She was happy to know that everyone was alright, but the news about the dark mark made her feel uneasy.
When all was calm again and everyone was able to find a place to sleep, Estella found herself outside again. She looked up at the night sky and thought about everything. She thought about the attack and the danger she could have encountered. She thought about Draco and how quickly he had become a safe haven for her. Above all, she thought about her father.
Taking a breath, she said into the air, "When nights are cold and stars are few, I close my eyes and think of you. A silent hope, a silent tear, a silent wish that you were here."
