Batman is forced to intervene.-

"What do you mean?" Harley asked turning on her heel before her hand could reach the door knob. Her eyes were wide as her mouth was left parted with shock at his random words.

"Well, Batsy was at the orphange too. So he couldn't save all the kids when it accidentally caught on fire." He smirked approaching her. "So he let me take these two after I offered him a deal. No harm would come to them if we could keep them for two days."

"Why only two days?" Harley whispered staring down at the babies. She couldn't hide the disappointment in her tone. She wanted to keep them and watch them grow older, not just watch them grow for two days.

"It was Bat-brains suggestion Harls. Trust me, I offered one month. But he wasn't having any of it." J defended himself holding up his hands as he stepped closer to her.

"B-But why didn't you just run away like you always do?" She questioned furrowing her eyebrows.

The Joker honestly didn't want to keep the kids for no longer than a week. He knew if he ran away and brought them back to the club Batman would just find them, and in the process close their club down. Not much people knew the Joker owned it when they entered, and usually they were too drunk to remember seeing his or Harley's face by the end of the night.

"He would have found us by now Harls. Would you prefer to keep them for one day or two?" He asked her folding his arms, towering over her.

"Two..." She mumbled.

"Good answer. Now, why don't you go do all the things you wanted to do with kids? Hmm?" He spoke softly reaching his hand out and gently sliding it down her arm.

"Let's go to the park!" She squealed in excitement at all the things planned for them in two days.

The Jokers smile fell as he imagined what she had prepared.

The Joker and Harley sat in their purple Vador. Ready for the final minute they had with the two kids. They had named them Lucy and Jack. Harley decided those names were cute which definitely matched the two.

The Joker didn't want to give up the kids, which surprised him. He thought he would have hated them. But they actually grew on him. Half of the first day was torturous. He was left with clearing the park of civilians in an attempt to keep anyone from seeing the infamous Joker and Harley Quinn with two babies. He didn't want rumours to spread. But as he began to play with Lucy and Jack he began to find a smile spreading across his face in the most affectionate way.

"I don't want to give them away Puddin'." Harley's voice interrupted his thoughts while her hand reached out placing it gently on his.

He looked up seeing her soft blue eyes glaze over. "We have to Harley. Unless you want Batsy on our tails for the whole night?"

Harley shook her head defiantly, casting her eyes down to the two bundles of joy in both of their arms. Lucy in the Jokers arms and Jack in hers. She did have to admit, she never thought of J as a baby person but she couldn't help but giggle whenever he called Lucy his little girl.

"Come on." The Joker whispered lifting her chin up so she was staring at him. "Batmans probably watching us right now." He said turning away from her and opening his car door. Harley did the same and the two both exited the vehicle with the babies held protectively against their chests.

They were in a dark alley opposite the ACE Chemicals facility. The Joker had chosen the location despite Batmans requests for a change.

"Come on Batsy! We're here!" The Joker called out sitting on the hood of his car.

Batman came out of the shadows. Just feet away from them. "How long were you there?" J asked with a chuckle lifting himself off the car while Harley walked around to him.

The caped man was surprised they had showed up. He was almost positive he would be waiting in the shadows the whole night. But when he heard their car engine around the corner he was filled with relief.

"Give me the children." He spoke with a cold tone his lips in a line.

"Can you not let us say goodbye to them first?" Harley snapped feeling aggressive knowing he would be taking them away from her.

"You have one minute." Batman answered folding his arms.

Harley looked to J who was staring at her. She pulled him in closer till his ear was inches from her lips. "I don't want to let them go..." She whispered so Batman couldn't hear.

"I'm sorry Harls. But we can't risk him following us and loosing the kids while he drags our asses back to Arkham. But if we hand them over now, he's not bringing us in." J replied pulling her close and wrapping his arm around her.

"B-But I love them." Harley choked out leaning her head on his shoulder.

"I know. But we have to give them over. Just say goodbye." He said gently easing her off him and raising Lucy up to her.

Harley let out a quiet giggle seeing Lucy smile a toothless grin. She reached her finger down while Lucy grabbed it in her hand. The Joker couldn't help but smile. Harley leaned down and kissed the child's head before moving over to Jack who still lay in her arms. She smiled at his sleeping figure, his small chest rising and falling with each peaceful breathe he took. She bent down and kissed his forehead. The Joker took Jack from her arms so he had two babies leaning against his chest. The warmness he felt in his heart was crushing him. He had to get rid of them before it took over.

He walked over to Batman who was patiently watching the goodbyes. He handed the two over while Batman held them in his arms. J couldn't help but feel a sharp sting in his chest, watching the vigilante walk away back into the shadows without another word.

Harley ran over to him wrapping her arms around him from behind. He turned around resting his head in the crook of her neck.

"They're better off now." He whispered against her skin.

She felt small drops roll down her neck as he spoke those words. She raised her hand, stroking his hair.

"I know.."
