"Joker?"
George's deep voice called his name from the door. The Joker didn't turn around, instead he twisted his head slightly, to show he was listening.
"Harleen convinced me to come out and talk." He informed, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly as he stepped closer to the madman.
"Her name is Harley. There's no Harleen left in her." Joker corrected venomously, blowing out a cloud of smoke.
"Well if her birth certificate says Harleen. Then her name is Harleen." George countered boldly. He now stood just a foot away from the green haired clown, who stood with his hood up, presumingly so no one would notice him.
"You remind me of her," J grumbled after a minute of silence. "You're not afraid of me." He smirked, looking over his shoulder to see her father staring blankly over the wooden fence of the garden.
"Well, I was almost a professional boxer in my day. I think you would be no hassle at all. A skinny guy like yourself." He quipped, taking the Joker by surprise.
The prince of Gotham stood stunned. Lost for words at the mans choice of words. Did he just call him weak? The Joker? "Oh, a cocky one are we?" He chuckled, taking one last puff of the cigarette before flicking it onto the ground.
"Some may call me that." He snickered, watching as the Joker spun on his heel, facing him with a grin that would send a shiver down anyone's spine, but not George's.
"Put them up then." He raised his hands, jumping up and down mockingly.
George grinned, raising both balled fists as he buried his feet in the ground, ready for anything.
The Joker tiptoed around him in circles, fists at the ready. He jumped forward, swinging his left hand. George leapt our of the way, causing J to stumble past him. He took this as his chance and knocked him right in the jaw.
"You don't know how much I've wanted to do this since you walked through that door." George chuckled, repositioning himself in a defensive stance.
The Joker laughed, wiping the blood away from his lip. "I bet you have."
He shot his arm out, hitting him in the centre of his stomach. George doubled over, catching his breath before using both hands to rapidly punch the villains jaw.J returned the aggression, fist missing the old mans head by millimetres. He staggered to the side. But the Joker had another plan. As Harley's father rebalanced himself, J kicked the back of his knees, sending him flying to the ground.
He laughed wildly, George scowling up at him. "That's cheating!" He whined, lifting himself off the ground.
The Joker snickered with amusement. "Did you really think I'd play by the rules?" He asked with a grin.
Suddenly the door opened, slamming against the white painted wall. A shriek was heard as both men looked over to the noise. "What the hell are you doing?" Harley gasped rushing over to them both.
"Don't worry Harls, we were just messing around." J giggled, smiling at her worried expression.
"Joker here was just showing me his 'boxing' skills." George huffed, brushing the dirt off his knees.
"Oh, so you two aren't killing each other out here?" She let out a sigh of relief, smiling at the most special men in her life getting along. "Well dinners ready now."
The Joker followed George and Harley into the kitchen, the smell of a freshly cooked roast chicken immediately met his nostrils. He breathed in and let out a satisfied sigh. "Something smells nice." He stated, taking his seat at the table beside Harley.
"You can thank my Moms excellent cooking." Harley smiled proudly at her mother who felt a light blush creep onto her cheeks.
"Too bad you didn't inherit that darlin'." He sighed, using his knife and fork to cut up the chicken, lifting large pieces of the meat and dropping them onto his plate.
George and Mary glanced at each other, then to Harley who mouthed a 'Sorry' to them. The Joker began to devour the food before anyone could put something on their plates.
"Jesus, do you not feed him?" George asked as the Joker swallowed a slice of chicken whole.
"He's just always hungry." Harley giggled, cutting up her own food.
"So, what do you do now Harleen- Harley?" Mary asked, changing her daughters name.
"What do you mean?" She questioned, swallowing some carrots.
"As a job. How do you get paid?" Mary elaborated, beginning to cut her roast potatoes in half.
Harley awkwardly gulped down her food. "Well, J and I own a club." She thought of with a grin.
"Oh really!" Mary gasped, her expression changed to one of curiosity and delight.
"Oh yeah, Harley loves her job there." J smirked, until he felt a sharp pain in his shin where Harley kicked with the tip of her pointed heels.
"Yes, I work behind the counter and write up the accounts." She thought of quickly, before her parents could ask what he meant.
They nodded their heads approvingly, satisfied by her answer.
"How long have you two been together for?" George bluntly asked, staring at his meal.
Harley looked to Joker for an answer but he still began to scoff down his food. "About 8 months or so." She replied.
"Thought of having children?" Her Mom asked suspiciously.
"Mom!" Harley snapped, eyes wide with astonishment at her moms sudden words.
The Joker chuckled. "I don't think anyone would want a little me or Harley running around the place." He admitted with a hint of disappointment in his tone.
"Well if you ever change your mind just remember, Granny Mary will always be here." She smiled, cheeks stinging from the grin she couldn't wipe off her face.
Harley rolled her eyes, cheeks burning with embarrassment.
The rest of the meal carried on with conversations here and there. Usually about Joker and Harley's life. How they were? How was Batman? But then the Joker started blabbering on about a scheme he had thought of, a 'joke' he liked to call it. Where Batman would be hanging above hundreds of piranhas, but the idea was quickly abandoned when he realised the fish couldn't smile.
Suddenly a cell phone rang. Everyone looked at the Joker who searched for it in his hoody pocket.
"Hello?" He answered after pulling the phone out. He stuffed a fork full of mashed potato into his open mouth greedily.
"Boss, I thought you said we would be opening the club early tonight?" Jonny Frost replied on the other end. His voice cold and emotionless.
"Why did I say that?" The Joker wondered.
"You said something about not wanting to go somewhere." Frost explained briefly.
"Oh," the Joker sighed, looking around the table at Harley and her parents laughing at a joke. He smiled softly before replying. "We'll just open it at the usual, I changed my mind." With that he hung up.
Harley glanced over at him, raising a brow. "Who was that?" She asked, a smile playing on her lips.
"No one darling." He grinned, reaching his hand under the table, lacing his fingers around hers.
Harley's eyes beamed with awe. Their hands moulded together like a perfect jigsaw. They were made for each other.
