"Ashton? Can we stop by my house so i can get some stuff?" I ask as we get back to his house. "Sure." Ashton starts up the van and starts down the street.
I am extremely nervous. It's only Ashton and I in the van.. My mum is home, i assume. How am i going to get past her?
"Thanks Ash, i'll be out in a few." I say and climb out. I open the front door and look around, of course... She is in the living room. "Maddie? Is that you?" My mothers scratchy voice calls out. "Y-yeah?"
Out of nowhere she gets up and rushes towards me. "Wha-" I'm cut off by her hand coming in contact with my smooth skin. I scream out in pain and grab my cheek. "You're staying with me. You're only 17, now get in here!" She demands and digs her fingers into my arm, dragging into the kitchen.
"No please!" I exclaim as she slaps me again. "Sit the fuck down." I obey her and sit in the hard chair next to the stove. The front door slams open and Ashton comes running into the kitchen.
"C'mon Maddie." He says and reaches for me.
"Not so fast Mr. Irwin.. Maddie! Tell your little boyfriend what's going on." She demands. Tears run down my face as i look up at my best friend. "I'm st-staying here, Ash." I choke out.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean i'm staying with my mum." I sternly say with a fake smile.
Ashton can see right through me, "Please, Mrs. Harrison.. Let Maddie come with me?" Ashton begs.
"I'm her legal guardian." She smiles. I hate her so much. "Let me.. Adopt her!" He exclaims. My head shoots up to look at him. "Or let my parents adopt her! How nice would it be not to have a child to look after?" Ashton bargains.
"If you get the papers together within two days then you or your parents can adopt her. Only two days! If not, Maddie and i will be moving to America with my boyfriend." My mother says and shoves me towards Ashton. "Be back on Friday." I nod and pull Ashton through our messy house and to the van.
As soon as the door closes i break down in tears. "Ashton! I don't want to go to America!" I cry and hug him. "I know, i know.." He comforts me and starts the van.
"Let's go to my mothers office." He says and drives down the road with a hand on my leg. "It will be okay..."
"Ashton! Maddie!" Ashton's mother, Anne, exclaims. "How are you two? Oh sweetie, what happened to you?" She asks once she sees my face. "It was my mum.." I reply and hug her. "Oh love, come sit. You too, Ashton."
"Mum, this is important." Ash says as soon as we sit in her office. "One of us needs to adopt Maddie."
"Woah, what?"
"If one of us doesn't adopt Maddie in two days, her mother will take her and move to America.. She is extremely abusive.. As you can see. She said it was okay, as long as we get the papers by Friday." Ashton spills.
"I'll do it.. We love you like family, Maddie." She says to me. "I'll do anything to keep you safe. I'm sure Harry and Lauren would love to have you living with us. I just need to call a few people, and i'm sure i can get this done within a day.. But lets go down to the court with your mother. We'll take my car." Anne says and pulls us from her office.
Ten minutes later we are back outside of my house. "C'mon Maddie." Anne smiles and takes my hand. She is the mother i've always wanted.
She knocks on the front door and my mum opens it. "What do you want?" She asks as she eyes Anne's business suit. "I will be adopting your daughter. We need you to come to the city hall with us." Anne says and gestures for my mum to come out.
Mum rolls her eyes and grabs a coat from the hanger and slams the door behind her. "You may sit in the front with me." Anne smiles kindly and gets in the car.
Ashton and i sit in the back, i grab his hand in fear. Fear of me going to America. Fear of the courts not accepting anything. Fear of never seeing Michael, Everest, Hayden, Jemima, Calum, and Ashton again.
Fear of never seeing Luke again..
Finally we reach the city hall and get out. "Hello, I am Anne Irwin, i called earlier for an appointment with Judge Marshal." Anne says to the lady at the desk. "Right through those doors."
"Hello, hello! You must be Anne!" The man says as he sit us down in front of his desk. "So what is going on today?" He questions and sits behind his huge desk.
"I'd like to adopt Kate Harrison's daughter, Madeline."
"Why is that?"
"My mother isn't the best parent.." I speak up. "Shut up girl." My mother instructs and glares at me. "Mrs. Harrison, do you give Anne permission to adopt Madeline?" Judge Marshal asks.
"Yeah, i want that girl out of my life." My mother spits. "I just need everyone to sign papers and things will be final." He says and reaches into some drawers, pulling out packets of papers.
A new man steps into the room. "Maddie, you need to fill this out." He says and hands me a few papers. "Kate and Anne, you need to sign this. If you come with me, i can help you." He ushers them out of the room and shuts the door behind them.
"Thank you so much..." I thank Judge Marshal. "It's my job, love. And quite frankly, i don't like your mother either." He laughs. "Even if your mother didn't agree to the adoption, i'd do something about all this. I can see those hand prints on your face.. It's clear that they come from your awful mother." He smiles sympathetically.
I smile and look down at my papers. Things are going well for me now..
Two hours later, we're parked outside of my old house. "I'll come with you, Maddie." Ashton says as we all get out. "Thank you, Kate, for letting me adopt Maddie. We love her like family." Anne says as i go inside with Ash.
"Mads, why are you crying?" Ashton exclaims and hugs me. "I'm just so happy..." I smile and pack up my books and bedding. "So happy.." I whisper and close the last box.
(A/N: Hey guys! I don't really know how the whole adoption thing goes... So i made this up.
