Luna
"WE SHOULD CHECK THE school first. See if they're still there," Scott states. Theo and him found me leaning against my truck, taking deep breaths to calm myself down. "The Dread Doctor's are probably on there way to kill Hayden, so we need to find them fast."
Theo and I nod in agreement.
"It's okay if you don't want to go, Luna," Theo says, turning to me. "You can stay at the school, go to classes, and calm down. No one's going to blame you if you do."
I was already shaking my head, "No. I care about Liam and Hayden, too. I'm going to help them." The two of them just nod and walk over to Theo's truck. Once I'm in mine, we all drive to the school.
There's cops and ambulances still there which is strange because they'd taken Corey a couple of hours ago. When we enter the building, Theo separates from Scott and I to investigate what was going on. Scott and I search through every hallway and classroom looking for Hayden and Liam, but there's no sign of them.
"I don't think they're here," I tell Scott after coming up empty in another classroom. "They probably took off when they heard about Corey."
"Yeah, that's what I was thinking too, but where would they go?"
"Maybe to Liam's house?" Scott shakes his head, already dismissing the idea. "Or Hayden's?"
"No, I'm pretty sure they were already planning on leaving. Something was off with Liam this morning."
"Well, then where can they be?"
"I have no idea."
An hour of searching, and we're convinced the two teenagers are no where near the school building. We meet up with Theo in the parking lot. He tells us the reason the cops were still around was because there was another dead Chimera. When Scott hears this, his shoulders slump down in defeat.
"Any idea where Liam and Hayden are?" Theo asks. I answer instead of Scott.
"No, we think they had to have left around the time we did."
"What about their houses?" I shake my head.
"Scott says he thinks they were already planning on leaving."
"So, Hayden must've already been leaking mercury." Scott and I nod. I stare at the ground, leaning against Theo's truck we were gathered around. "Well, if they're planning on leaving town, they're going to need money," Theo points out. "Doesn't Hayden work at the Sinema?"
Realization flutters across Scott's face as he says, "And it's Friday so Hayden is getting paid today." Scott is running to his motorbike while yelling over his shoulder. "That's where they are!"
Theo and I jump into his truck, relieved we finally have a clue of where they could be. The feeling in my gut tells me that's definitely where they are, but we might be too late. It doesn't go away until we pull up next to the building, and we can still hear fighting happening inside. Scott's motorbike is leaning against the wall as if he hastily jumped off and ran straight inside. I don't wait for Theo to cut the engine before I'm out of my seatbelt and out of the truck.
Anger gnaws at the pit of my stomach and shuffles its way up into my heart at the thought of coming face to face with the Doctor who killed Corey. My brain was logically trying to tell me I should wait in the vehicle and watch the sun set since I was so unstable, but my heart was screaming with anguish at the unfairness of Corey's death and the need to get justice for him. My heart's want to get revenge was too powerful over my brain's need to keep myself safe. So, I trudged right through the door with my claws out, my canines sharp, and the bones in my back twisting.
