JESS' POV

"Happy birthday!" My family greeted me in the kitchen. Christy put my birthday breakfast in font of me and we all began eating. The doorbell rang and Jake got up and went to go answer it. seconds later jake came back into the kitchen followed by Louis. "good morning" he greeted. "Nice to see you Louis," Christy returned the smile. "Good morning birthday girl," Louis said, pecking me on the cheek. "hey" I replied. "so, ready for that party tonight?" Louis asked me. "party?" Christy asked. "a few friends of mine are throwing a party for her tonight" Louis replied. "that's nice" Christy smiled. "Don't get home too late" Ron said. "don't worry, everything's going to be ok. it'll be fun" I smiled. I thanked Christy for breakfast and went up to my room, Louis following behind me. "happy birthday" he smiled, pulling a box out if his sweatshirt pocket. I opened it as pulled out a necklace. "it's beautiful Louis, thank you" I hugged him. "flip it over" he instructed. engraved in the back was 'now and forever, Louis and Jessica' "I really love it Louis, thank you so much" I hugged him again. "turn around, let's get it on" he said. I pushed my hair out of the way and he put the necklace around my neck. I admired it in the mirror. "this is the best present I've ever gotten" I smiled. "glad you like it" Louis replied. Kendal and Liam bursted into the room. "happy birthday!" Kendal yelled. "thanks" I smiled. "What's that?" he said, eyeing the new necklace. "Louis gave it to me" I replied. "Well it's beautiful, good pick" she smiled at Louis. "so when's this party starting?" Liam asked. "a little later," Louis replied. "why not just go now?" Liam asked. "help set up, you know?" he continued. we all agreed and headed over to the house. "what are you doing here so early?" luke asked. "we wanted to help set up" Louis replied. "thanks, ya we definitely need help setting up, but, Jess you can't come in, its a surprise" luke said. I nodded in reply and went to the car as the others walked into the large house.

.........

Minutes turned to hours and it was already dark, lights started flashing in the big house. I got out of the car and knocked at the door. A familiar guy answered. "come in, we're ready for you," Ashton smiled and gestured me inside. I took in the scene. bright streamers and cups filled the house. Lots of people were already in the house, cups in their hands. "ready to sing happy birthday!" Calum announced. Liam brought in the cake and everyone crowded around the small table. "happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear jess, happy birthday to you!" everyone sang. I blew out the candles and everyone cheered, digging into the cake. drinks were passed around and everyone resumed dancing. "where's Louis?" I asked Michael. "I don't know," he shrugged. I haven't seen Louis since I walked into the house, he wasn't there for cake, or on the dance floor. "Louis?" I called out. I decided to look outside, remembering finding him there last time. nothing. Someone offered me a drink and I took it. Its been 3 hours and still no sign of louis. I was starting to get worried. I walked through the hallway, bedroom doors on both sides of me. "Louis" I called again. nothing. I opened one of the bedroom doors, hoping that Louis had maybe passed out in one if them. but no, my eyes were playing games with me, this can't be happening. Louis was inside, but his lips were attached to another girls... tears poured out, blinding me. I backed away from the door slowly, my leg hitting the door in the process. Louis pulled away from the girl and looked up at me. his eyes going wide. "Jess I-" I ran away before he could finish. I heard his feet hitting the floor behind me. I ran into a nearby room, pulled the door shut behind me and locked it. Louis' fists hit the door repeatedly, pleading to open it. "Jess please, I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking" he said. "just leave me alone Louis" I replied. "I'm not going to leave you alone jess, just open the door and let me explain, please" Louis begged. " Theres no need to explain, I'm done Louis" I said. "what?" he asked. "I said I'm done" I repeated. "Jess please, think about this" he pleaded. "I already have. goodbye Louis" I said. "you promised you wouldn't leave me" he said, his head resting against the door. "I'm sorry" I sighed. "Jess" "Louis please" I said. I heard his footsteps leave from the room. "hey" someone said. "how long have you been in here?" I asked him. "a while. I heard you cut it with Louis just now" he said. I recognized his face suddenly. "You're Gavin right?" I asked. "ya" he replied. "so what happened?" he asked. "I just, I kinda walked in on him and another girl" I said. "why would he do that?" Gavin asked. "under the influence I guess, you know , the dark" I said. "I don't really know 'the dark' " he replied. "Every guardian has a dark" I said, now confused. "who said I was a guardian?" he smiled. "your not?" I asked. "ya, I'm a mortal. just like you" he replied. "then why are you hanging with them?" I asked. "they're fun" he simply replied. "why are you hanging them?" he repeated my question. "because I like their company" I replied. "well, guardians and mortals don't always work out like try should. That's why we have to stick to being with our own kind, you know?" he said. "ya, I guess" I replied. "it just, it hurts so much, him being with her, like that" I sobbed. "don't cry, I know it hurts right now, but it will get better" Gavin said pulling me to his chest. "Here drink this, it will make you feel better" he said handing me a cup. "I don't know" I said, pushing the cup away. "please Jess, it will make you feel better, just drink it" he said, putting the cup closer to me. "fine" I took the cup and sipped it down. but something was off. "Gavin, did you put something in my drink?" I asked, noticing the room get abnormally blurry. " no" he replied, his voice echoing in my head. "are you sureeee" I slurred. "nope" he grinned, my vision going black.
