As I feel my body giving in to the torture, I know I won't have much time left. A few good memories drift to the surface of my consciousness as my mind tries to distract me from the inevitable.
I watched the few months I'd had with the Avengers and wonder what would have happened if I hadn't run away again. If I had just stayed put and dealt with my problems, I wouldn't be in this mess. But I'm notorious for running away the minute things get tough. I'm not sure who taught me that since Bucky and Nat didn't seem to run away. I guess it's my mind's way of protecting me from more heartache.
"It's only a matter of time before she dies." One of the doctors says as they stand above me. I wanted to believe that because death would be a sweet release.
"She's a fighter. We probably can continue doing this for several more weeks before she succumbs to her injuries." Someone injects something into my I.V. line. "Tomorrow, we'll do the surgery. After that it doesn't matter if she lives or not. We'll have a means to continue her bloodline."
I couldn't process what they were saying. I had a feeling they were harvesting my eggs. That's probably what is happening but I can't be sure.
"Do you ave no sympathy for her?" The first doctor asks. "She's a child after all."
"She's no child. She's lived longer than both of us. Anyways, she's never known what love felt like so it doesn't matter if we don't show her kindness. She wouldn't know what it was."

Third Person POV:
The building spanned several floors both above the ground and below. The hallways were all identical, giving away no clue for the agents to follow. Instead, the lack of distinguishable qualities only seemed to aid the enemy in hiding the prisoners.
"Search every room. Allow no one to escape." The orders were that simple. The enemies who decided to resist would be shot on sight. Even the prisoners were to be captured and brought to the black sights.
An older agent followed by a young recruit searched the third floor for any sign of life. Most rooms were filled with dead bodies or were completely empty.
One locked door confronted the agents with a decision. There could be any number of things behind the sealed door. It could be an armed enemy or one of the poor souls who was being detained.
"They said search every room." The young recruit states and the older agent gives the order.
They break down the door and were horrified by the sight in front of them. A young girl no more than sixteen years old was hanging from the ceiling by the binds on her wrists. At first glance, the girl looked dead. However, on closer examination they realized she was very much alive.
"Get her down, I'll call this in." The older agent gives the orders as he thinks of his own daughter back home.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The young girl was close enough to death that even the best doctors wondered if she would survive the next few hours. Her body was battered from the procedures and the physical violence it had endured. But miraculously, she survived the night.
She didn't wake up for several days but that was to be expected. Instead, the doctors were more baffled by the quick recovery her body was making.
Before their eyes, her body slowly started to heal itself. Some injuries were healing at lightning speed while others were healing like a normal humans would.
"Sir, her DNA displays the X-Gene." A scientist presents the results to the head agent.
"Any relation to a registered mutant or human for that matter?"
"None. We've never seen anything like this before. If I had to guess, she has alien blood in there somewhere." The scientist glances over at the girl like she was a specimen for him to examine.
"She's not to be experimented on. The girl has gone through enough." He had taken a special interest in the girl's well-being when his brother had brought her in. "Notify me if her condition changes.

"Sir, she's waking up." The agent seemed excited to bring the news to the commanding officer.
The officer rushed to meet the young girl and discover her story. She wouldn't be experimented on but would be interrogated until all information regarding the HYDRA compound could be discovered. At one time this would have been SHIELD's job but now it fell on the CIA to fix the world's mistakes.
"I want to go home." Her Russian was immaculate and carried a small accent that reminded the officer of his days in the Soviet Union. The girl was too young to have grown up during that time, however.
"Leave us." The officer gave the command and everyone obliged. She looked uneasy when he spoke her native language. He even had the small accent to match hers. "Can you tell me your name?" He asks as he pulls up a seat next to her bed.
She was restrained and wouldn't be able to hurt him even if she wanted to.
"Not until you tell me where I am." She had an attitude but deep down you could hear the fear in her voice.
"I can't do that." Another agent appears and hands the man a clipboard. "I'll ask once more, what is your name?"
"Vera."
"And you're patronymic name?" She doesn't respond. "If you cooperate, we will be able to reunite you with your parents. They must be missing you?"
"I don't have a patronymic name. I don't have a last name either. And I won't tell you anything." She was defiant in nature making the officer remember the other Russians he's dealt with in his time.
"Where did the men take you from? You didn't volunteer, correct?"
"Did I look like I wanted that done to me. They took me from..." Her voice quickly cuts off as she realizes the information she was about to divulge. "When will I be released? I didn't do anything wrong."
"We don't know your past, so we can't ensure that you won't harm others after you are released."
"I need to go home." She wasn't sounding so scared anymore and instead was sounding like she was preparing for a fight.
