Chapter Sixty Two

Nats POV:

"That went better than expected."  Tony's sarcasm leaked through to his words.

Serenity had sent all of us away shortly after writing us off as the enemy.  My daughter slipped into the cold faced agent that I remembered from her days with Hyrda after realizing no one cared what she thought.  

"Are you sure there is no other way to spin her story so the public loves her?"  I ask hoping to spare my daughter the heartache that was going to ensue as the press went to work creating headlines that would prove how corrupt the world was.

"If we had any other option, we would be utilizing it."  Pepper assures me.

"This is going to destroy her confidence."  We were finally getting her to establish a new life for herself, away from all the hardships she's suffered.  This was only going to undo all of our work.

"Plans are already in place to do damage control."  Tony puts a hand gently on Nat's shoulder.  "I think of Serenity as my niece, if I could spare her all of this I would."

No one typically saw the soft spot in Tony but Serenity seemed to have worked her way into his heart. 

"This would have been easier if she wasn't tied to Bucky and I."  I knew that our pasts would influence how the media took Serenity's story.  "Serenity Barnes: Daughter of Two Notorious Assassins, I can see the headlines now." 

"That would be the tamest of headlines."  Banner appears looking concerned about something.  "I hate to think that they are going to go after a minor like that."  

"We'll be lucky if they don't actually physically come after her."  Pepper glances at me worriedly.  "You and Bucky need to start discussing the next course of action.  Serenity cannot be in the public eye after today, at least not in a broad setting."

"That's going to go over well."  Tony seemed to anticipate the same reaction I was.

"T-minus 3 days 14 hours and 10 minutes until you're officially an Avenger."  Peter announces after I start destroying him in the video game we were playing.

"If you keep reminding me, I will make you wish you weren't living across the hall from me."  I growl, having stopped by his room to be distracted.  "You're just bitter I'm beating you."

"Are you really that worried?"  He didn't sound like he was trying to annoy me, instead I could sense his concern.

"How would you feel if the headlines read ' Penis Parker: Newest Avenger'?"  I ask knowing it was a low blow but it was the only thing I could think of to make him understand.  "Except they're not going to list the people you killed, or the fact that Hydra would whip me to prove a point."  Tears start to slip down my cheeks.

"Hey, don't cry."  He was sounding more distressed than I was feeling.  

"God, I thought I could move past all of this.  Instead, it always catches up to me."  I bury my head in my hands.

"We'll take this one step at a time."  He promises.  "I won't let you do this on your own."

I wanted to tell him that he wouldn't want to be associated with me after everything comes forward, but I allow myself to hope that he would keep his promise.   I wouldn't have Jason at my side Saturday night so I'll need someone to keep me grounded as the world blows up around me.

"Are you sure MJ is going to allow that?"  I joke as I wipe away my tears.

"Why would you say that?"  He didn't sound angry just confused.

"She's obsessed with you and not in a friend kinda way."  I reply wondering why he looked so visibly sick.  "Peter?"

"I'm not into her like that."  He replies as he tries to turn my attention back to the video game. 

"Then who are you into?"

"Let's not talk about this, right now."

"Can I start a you tube page for us?"  I ask everyone at dinner that night.  I had been trying to find a way to make the public love me without giving them access to all of my dark secrets.  A you tube profile seemed like a great way to get us positive publicity and keep the public at bay.

"And what exactly would that entail?" Tony asks as he takes a bite of his pizza.

"I don't know maybe we could do karaoke nights, cooking tutorials, self defense videos, something like that."  I reply hoping everyone would agree.  "It would allow us to turn the public away from me and towards the entire group."

"I think it's a great idea."  Pepper smiled warmly at me.  I know everyone was anxious that I was going to blow up on someone at dinner but instead I tried to be more mature and come up with a viable solution to my problems.

"Why not, we need to build positive publicity after the whole civil war stunt."  Tony leaned back in his chair.

"Great.  I'll start setting up the page tonight, and we'll launch it Sunday night."  I started making a list of ideas for the videos.

"I say we do Disney Karaoke."  Peter pipes up and I see a few of the avengers squirm at the idea.

"Sounds like a fantastic idea."  It would be the perfect debut video.

"Welcome to our new channel, Daily Avengers. My name is Serenity Barnes and I will be your host for today's video."  I tried to keep my voice as chipper as possible as I prepared to start recording the video that would introduce me to all of youtube.  The video wouldn't be published until right after the ball.  I was planning on recording everyone's tomorrow since I have nothing better to do.

"Many of you have just become familiar with my name and yep, you guessed it, I'm Bucky Barnes' kid.  I'm fifteen years old from Russia and about a year ago, I escaped from a Hydra compound.  If you don't know about Hydra, I've listed a link in the description."

"The Avengers picked me up while I was on the run and offered me a place on their team.  Shortly after, I discovered Bucky was my father.  At the time, we assumed that the woman who gave birth to me was my mother.  But sometime later, I found out Natasha Romanov was my mother.  I was born via surrogate and thus that explains why my parents didn't know about my existence."

"Fast forward a few months and I'm settling in at Avengers HQ.  I will be more than willing to do a Q & A in future episodes but for right now, I'll leave it at that."

"Real quick though, I would like to say that yes I am a mutant and no I do not like to be called Winter Widow.  Call me Serenity or Seri for short."
