I don't know if this applies to everybody, but my band has a practice field. It's basically a parking lot painted with stuff from the field plus green dots spray painted on it.
Because we get our own personal practice field, we still have practice every chance we get, whether football practice is cancelled or not (lucky us). When we run a lap before practice, we're supposed to jog and not cut corners.
Do you honestly think that anyone goes around the corners? Because they don't.
And the band directors and drum majors don't watch us run, either, so we could quite easily just walk the entire field. The only reason I don't is because if I slow down for even half a second, every kid behind me starts yelling.
