When I woke up the next morning, light blinded my eyes and I had to slam my eyelids closed for a minute. I pulled my blanket over me and buried my face into my pillow. It smelled of lilac, my bedroom always did. It was my moms favorite flower so my father always kept the scent in my room, so I wouldn't forget her.
Then I processed everything I had just taken in. The lilac, the blanket, the pillow. I sat up and realized I was in my bedroom. I looked around for another figure but only found the scene of my bedroom. I looked down at my clothes and realized I was in the same clothes as yesterday.
I sighed and got out of bed. I went over to my calender and saw that my father and I had to meet a family today. Something about his old high school friends.
I grabbed a short and sleeveless mini cocktail dress with an A-line silky top and a flowy satin skirt. I hopped into the shower and when I got out, got dressed, did my hair, and then just stared into the mirror for a while. I could still hardly recognize the person staring back at me.
I heard something downstairs and, deciding it was Dad, I opened the door and slid on my silver high heels. I walked downstairs -carefully, so as not to kill myself since I wasn't the best in heels even though I was getting used to it- and found someone staring at the pictures on the shelves above the television.
From the back they had sandy blonde hair and creamy skin. They seemed to be only an inch or two taller than me. He wore a black suit and I could just barely see the blue collar of his shirt. His hands were in his pockets and everything about him seemed to scream business and power.
Since I had been staring at him for a while, he probably felt my eyes on the back of his head. He turned around, revealing a flawless teenage face with bright blue laughing eyes and a smirk on his lips. He looked me up and down and then he met my eyes.
" What are you doing in my house?" I went straight to the point and he seemed to laugh a little.
" You must be Amber. Nice to meet you." He held out his hand but I refused to shake it. Something about him set me off. The way he knew he was attractive, wealthy, powerful, and seemed to want to use it all to its full potential. I just sent a glare his way and crossed to the kitchen.
Dad came from the lower hall and was shuffling through a stack of papers. He was wearing a black suit, a deep red shirt, and a black tie. We must be going somewhere really fancy since he was wearing his favorite watch. The one he never wore unless it was a VERY special occasion.
" Amber, you woke up. I'm glad you remembered our plans for the day also. Take a seat on the couch while I talk to Christopher, please. Then we can all leave for the trip to the dinner meeting." He motioned to the couch and then turned to the boy.
I looked at the couch and then to the television. Devon and I had been here the other night. Had I fallen asleep and he taken me upstairs? Why did he leave? I looked at Dad but didn't sit down. " Where is Devon?" I asked. Something about me wanted to make sure he hadn't abandoned me or had been hurt.
" I came home last night and found you both asleep. We took you upstairs to bed, I had a talk with him, and then sent him home. Nothing is wrong, Amber. I didn't taze him.... sadly." Dad continued going through his papers while Christopher stared at me. Out of his peripheral vision. I glared at him again and sat down with my arms crossed.
I sat there for a long time thinking about the past couple of days. Mostly of Devon. My thoughts always ended up flowing into thinking about him and only him. His cold eyes that always seemed to be hiding something unreadable, the way his mouth always had a smile on it... even though it could be impossible to decipher at most times, and the way I felt when ever I was around him. Even thinking about him I couldn't help but wish he was here with me.
