(/-_-/).....(\-_-\).....(/-_-/).....(\-_-\) VICTORY DANCE!
My eyes shot open when I heard a large crack in the trees to my right. I stood up and backed away. "Who's there?" I backed into a large boulder and I heard another crack. My heartbeat raced and I began panicking."Is anybody there?" Normal people would have answered by now. My breath caught.
"Amber? Is that you?" I heard. Someone came walking down the path opposite the trees. My heart jolted, not out of panic, out of hope. I turned and found Devon. I put my hand over my heart and exhaled."Are you okay?" He smirked."Nice jacket."
I blushed."Thanks." I looked down and messed with the zipper."Um, I'm fine." I fought the urge to glance back to the woods.
"You sure? You're as pale as a ghost." He leaned against the boulder besides me.
I laughed. More of an you-don't-know-I-know laugh. I wish he could know that I am a psychic.
And then what? Then he might figure out that I might be his mate! If he doesn't know, he'll keep denying it because he thinks a human can't be his mate. Air head. A gosh darn hot one though...
"What's so funny?" He sent me a quizzical look.
I held back my smile and looked down."Nothing. It's just that ghosts don't exist." I shrugged.
"How would you know that? Have you ever seen one?"
"No. Doesn't that just help my opinion?" I turned to him and mocked his pose.
"Maybe. Sometimes you need to believe in order to see though." He smiled and leaned in a little bit. Then it hit me. His smell. It wasn't a bad smell, it was the smell of his jacket. It was intoxicating. I inched closer without thinking twice.
"Hm. Bad boys been thinking." I smiled.
"Who said I was a bad boy? Maybe, I'm a sweet, caring, truthful guy."I rose an eyebrow and he laughed."Okay, so, maybe the evidence does stack up against me. People can change though, right?"
I smiled. You and I both know the answer to that one. "I'd like to see that."
"Didn't you already?" Devon asked, his face serious.
I kept quiet a couple seconds. "Right..." I thought about his beautiful wolf form."Does your shoulder still hurt?" I asked. He didn't answer."Devon?" He looked up.From my lips.I blushed and continued."Does your shoulder still hurt?" I stepped forward and tried to reach for his shoulder.
"I'm," He cleared his throat."I'm fine." He took my hand and pushed it back towards me."Would you like to go to the Diner? I don't mean it as a - a date. But..." His voice cracked a little and I bit down my smile."So...would you?"
"Sure." I smiled as he placed his hand on my lower back before we began walking. Before we turned the corner, I glanced back to the woods. The entire time we were talking it felt like someone had been watching me. Wouldn't Devon had sensed something? Or...was I blocking his train of thought?

"Thanks." I said to the waitress as she gave us our shakes. Mine strawberry and his vanilla. They were both my favorite, but I didn't want to seem like I was copying him by picking the same flavor. The waitress nodded as she left, sneaking a glance at Devon.
The waitress was a cheerleader. A really pretty one too. She had strawberry blond hair with big brown eyes and a big chest. I rolled my eyes when she had leaned across Devon to "pick up" a straw wrapper. Her chest was right in his face. He scooted over a bit so they wouldn't be in his face. He completely ignored her the rest of the time. I held back my laugh and I saw Devon sort of glare at me for smiling.
