Chapter 13

I stood there and took it all in once again. This was a paranormal meeting. Full of paranormals. It seemed like a serious meeting... but everyone also looked calm and relieved.

Several people looked familiar and I even saw Seraphina. I saw her talking to Mira and other people. I saw some of my old teachers. I saw people who worked at the gas station. I saw regulars at the Diner.

How many of the people in town are paranormals?

Mira spotted me and came over to me. She was smiling like she was completely bonkers. She had on a little black dress and black high heels. Her hair was up in a bun and strands were already falling down. I didn't say anything. She laughed.

" How? Wait, no. Who all do I know and is a paranormal AND didn't tell me. And," I pulled her far aside and leaned in so I could whisper into her ear. " Why isn't Devon here? If it is a paranormal meeting and all that stuff."

" Seraphina can start fires with her mind, hence the: red hair, hotness, and anger issues. Mr. Ringing is a necromancer, he can talk to ghosts and see them. Suzy Covington is a witch. All of her family is. Mr. Spinel is a skeleton... you really only want to see it on Halloween night.

Janie Little is a vampire. Don't worry she prefers animals," She smiled at me when she saw my blood drain from my face. " You look like a vamp when you do that." She giggled a little and kept going around the room telling me everything about everyone.

I had no idea we had this many people in our town who were like this.

" Now, what about Devon?" I asked.

" The Leaders only invite the more... legal and sophisticated and... law-abiding of their citizens that they can trust within their council. Your father and the mayor, neither are supernatural but both are important in the meetings. We all agree on laws and talk about problems and politics and stuff.

"I usually just end up eating and texting under the table. It isn't very fun. Mostly the adults talk but the teens still contribute important things. In the end we end up just gossiping. " She shrugged and lead me to a chair in between her and Seraphina.

" Hey, Sexy." Seraphina poked my arm and kept texting on her hot red phone. She was wearing her hair down and there was a black headband keeping it out of her face. She wore a really tiny red dress with no straps and it had a sweetheart neckline. There was a black pendant hanging from her neck and her black pumps made her at least five inches taller.

" You play with fire?" I asked her.

" Yup. My teachers call me a pyromaniac, though. Except the ones that are here now. They know about me, obviously." She shrugged and smiled her sweet smile.

" Oh." I sat down and listened to the conversation at the table. I still couldn't believe that I was in one of the meetings. Now I guess everyone knew.

" Okay, everyone. Sit down, please. We are ready to begin." Said Mayor Conard. After a minute of rustling around... everyone was seated and the entire room was quiet. Mayor Conard continued. " Today we have come to talk of something rather different than we usually would. Nothing of politics. But of safety for our friends and family."

" As all of you know, a very amazing and trustworthy friend of ours has been taken. She must have known something in order for the people to act in such wild behaviors. We believe she is still alive." There was a murmur through the entire room. Since I didn't know what anybody was talking about I just ignored it and continued paying attention to the skull-like and familiar figure at the head of the table.

" Just recently one of her descendents has learned of their ability. They may also be in danger. It is our job to help protect the young child. They are one of us and now that they know about us, we must give them reason to want to be a part of us." He finished.
