Prologue - The Engagement

Notice: Two months have passed since Wally got his memories back...

Artemis and Nightwing were standing in the Watchtower, outlooking the entire universe, thinking about how bad the previous mission had gone, with the League losing Barry to a single gunshot wound, that even he hadn't seen coming. She sighed, and said to the Bird, "I hope Wally's doing okay with this. He and Barry were pretty close." Nightwing replied, "I'm sure Walls will be fine, Artemis. Despite what we think we know about Wally, he's a pretty strong person. I mean, he was the one that tried to put himself in that gunshot's way, but he was just blurring too fast, so the bullet slipped through, and unsuspectingly hit Barry. It was in the heat of the moment, that left him doing that kind of bravery, even if he couldn't stop it." Artemis answered, "I hope you're right..." Nightwing gave a smile, then left the room, heading for the mission room, to file the report for the loss of Barry. Suddenly, the blonde felt a rush of wind, and turned around, quickly finding herself kissing her boyfriend, the speedster in question, Wally. The ginger speedster grinned, as the kiss ended, and smirked, "Did I just hear you and Nightwing talking behind my back, Crock? That doesn't seem very nice, especially after I came all this way, just to see you." Artemis rolled her eyes, and joked, "Yeah, well your ninja skills still need work. I swear, anyone could hear you coming for miles..." "But I am your ninja boyfriend, Artie! You just have really good hearing...", Wally suggested. Artemis gave in, and said, "Alright...Fine, you big goof! You're my ninja boyfriend." The two fell silent for several minutes, until Artemis asked softly, knowing what she was about to ask was on a touchy subject, "How are you adjusting, Walls?" The speedster shrugged his shoulders, and said, frowning, "I'm doing fine. Just fine." The blonde continued, "Wally, it's okay to feel crushed about losing Barry. He was your mentor, after all, but he was a good one." Wally held up his hands, and said firmly, "I really am fine, Artemis. Sure, he was my mentor and family, but he died as a hero. That's what he always told me he wanted to be doing when he died. Saving people from gunshots or burning buildings. He just happened to get his wish." Again, the two fell silent, the air cold and stagnant around them. Artemis could tell Wally was angry at Barry, but didn't say a word. Instead, she turned back to face the window, staring into open space. Feeling Wally's arms wrap around her midsection, Artemis leaned into his warm body, and let herself become completely relaxed, until she unnoticingly looked into the speedster's pocket, and saw a small box. Pulling out the box, Artemis asked, turning around and holding it up, "Wallace Rudolph West, what is this?" Wally chuckled, then quickly grabbed the box from her hands, and blushed, saying, "Well, the box, Artemis, is actually why I came in here to talk to you in the first place. Ever since I got my memory back of you, there's been this one thing that's been bugging my mind, and well..." Artemis watched as the speedster got down on one knee, grabbed her hand, and said, "Artemis Lian Crock, will you marry me?" Artemis watched as Wally opened the box, and removed a beautiful gold ring with small emeralds embedded in it, then slid the ring on over her finger. The blonde gasped at the sight of the ring, and exclaimed, "Yes, Wally West ! I will marry you!" The two shared a kiss on the lips, just as Nightwing and the rest of the Team reappeared in the room. The Bird smirked, as M'gann and the other girls awwed. The boys, however, weren't doing too much, except standing and smiling. When Artemis opened her eyes, and saw Nightwing smirking at her, she asked Wally, "Did you just use Nightwing as a spy to know when to ask me?" Again, Wally blushed, his cheeks growing as red as his hair, as he said, "What? He's my best guy friend. The bro code makes me include him in things of importance, especially when it comes to a marriage engagement." Nightwing came over to the couple, and said, with a smile, "Congrats you two... The first of the original Team members getting hitched, and none of the League is around." Artemis smiled, then went over to M'gann, and began talking with her, as they congratulated her. Wally turned to Nightwing, and said, "Thanks man... I never could have pulled this off without you." Nightwing smiled, and answered, "No problem, Wally. You and Artemis deserve this, especially after all that has happened."

So this was just the prologue to the book. I'll be doing a prologue from now on in the beginning of all the books in the series, so I can put some time gaps in between them. This particular book takes place 4 months after Wally gets his memory back, so there's a 2 month gap between the last book, this scene, and 2 months after this prologue as well. I think you guys will like this...
