So, I wanted to have a little fun in this chapter, by having Arsenal question about the mission leaders. Speaking of which, there is a very obvious reference to S2, so maybe you can catch it and tell me the episode number? If you do, you get 50 points... Finally, I'm also giving away another 50 points for the person that comes up with the movie where I got the argument from. I'll even shoutout the champ, if someone guesses correctly! (Hint: It's not DC related in any way!) Good luck, and enjoy Chapter 12!
After the couple's timely arrival for once, the rest of the Team showed up, including the new members, ready with their suits intact and their weapons ready to go. Artemis asked, "What is the mission, Nightwing?" The blue and black Bird replied, his hand going up to a holographic screen, pulling up a map, "There is a dangerous cargo deal going on in the French Quarter Bay, between Vandal Savage, and Klarion. We are unsure of what the cargo is, but your mission is to go covert, and figure out what is inside the crates. For this mission, Flash and Artemis will be your team leaders." Arsenal asked angrily, "Why do they get to be team leaders anyway?" Nightwing responded, "Because." "Because why?", Arsenal argued further. Nightwing stated firmly, "Because they didn't blow up a whole LexCorp greenhouse lab, on their last mission. Rendezvous and listen to them, Team. Learn from them. They know how to plan for Savage's and Klarion's moves. Do nothing without ensuring them first. And no, under any circumstances, blowing things up. Arsenal and Speedy, I'm talking to you both." Both archers frowned when they heard their names, and pulled up their defenses. Even Robin seemed irritated by the lack of intel and the fact that Artemis and Wally were over them. Nightwing continued, "Good luck, Team. The Bioship is in the Hangar, and is ready for action." As the younger Team members scattered from the room, Artemis came up to Nightwing, and said, "Green Arrow wants me to take control and be Speedy's mentor, but she's so...." Nightwing smirked, "So much like you were when you were fifteen? Itching to use a bow and arrow and to leave people in the dust? Somewhat of an irritation? Artemis, you've been in her place before. The newbie to the Team, where she knows no one and no one trusts her, I know you've been in her shoes. What's real, is that because you know about it, you can have a greater advantage to help her succeed. That's just what we do. We teach the younger members how to fight, so when we are too old ourselves or are out of the game, then they can stand ready to fight, and train their next generation in the fight. It's a massive circle, and we all have to pitch in. Think about it...Speedy would be coming to you for advice. You'll be the person she trusts more than anyone else. Take that opportunity and be a good mentor to her." Artemis smiled, then followed Wally, who was still standing beside her silently, and left to board the Bioship. As they climbed aboard, the blonde gained control of the Bioship, with Wally as her co-pilot. The flight to New Orleans was long and tedious lasting well into the early hours of the next day, resulting in some of the younger members of the Team, mainly Bart, complaining of the length of it. Finally arriving at the end of the flight, over the zone they needed to be at, Artemis commanded the Bioship to drop lines, so Wally, Bart, Blue Beetle, and Beast Boy could get to the ground without being noticed. As the first squad ran off, or flew off, in Blue Beetle's sense, the blonde flew the Bioship over an open area, put it in neutral command, then stood and turned to the other teens still inside. She said, "As this is your first mission, you will be in squads. Speedy, Robin, and Static, you three will be in my squad. Our squad will handle the attack. We will use radio silence, so do not use them. The rest of you will be in a third squad as the backup in the case that things get too ugly out there." "What about Flash's squad, Artemis?", asked Speedy, a very devilish look in her brown eyes. Artemis responded, "Flash's squad is in charge of being the distraction for the enemy. With their abilities, distraction is best. Why do you ask?" The dark haired girl replied nonchalantly, yet with a tiny smirk on her face, "No reason." Despite the nonchalant response, Artemis already knew why her protégée was asking about Wally's squad. If Nightwing and Green Arrow had said Speedy was just like her, when she was a younger teammate, then it was obvious that the younger, darker haired archer had a colossal crush on Bart, but refused to let it show around him, for fear of her own true feelings showing through her tough demeanor. Smiling, Artemis said, "If you're wondering about how Kid Flash will do, Flash is a good trainer. They've been working on tactics, so you have nothing to fear." Speedy indignantly retorted, "Ugh, why would I be worried about that blur of energy?! I swear at the introduction, he stepped on my toes over twenty times and wouldn't stop moving! I even had to jerk that jerk in the gut, yet he still was buzzing!" Replaying the millions of times Artemis had done that to Wally, as teens, she responded, "I completely understand what you mean. Now-" "Flash to Bioship! Come in!", Wally's voice came from over the line in the Bioship. Artemis whipped around, and put her finger on the radio, linked to the speedster's headset in his cowl. She said, "Bioship to Flash! What is it? What's going on down there?" The speedster responded, "The enemy knows about our covert mission, and has backup! Bad backup too! You guys ought to get down here before...ccrittsszzz..." "Wally? Your reception's breaking up! Tell me what's going on down there!", Artemis cried shakily. The line dropped, and the blonde sighed, turning to the others. She said calmly, "Change of plans, Team. Flash's squad was noticed, and informed me that we were expected by the enemy. There's extra company they got." "Well, what do we do now?", asked Supergirl, her blue eyes wary. Artemis responded, "Now...now we investigate and pick up Flash's squad from the location. We have to evacuate the mission, and return back to the Watchtower. I hate to admit it, but I think there's a mole, leaking intel about the Team to the enemy, and Nightwing needs to know about it." "A mole?! That's ridiculous!", claimed several of the teens. Artemis answered, "I know it sounds crazy, but this has happened before, with the Team. Someone, when I was about fifteen or so, and was on the Team as a teammate, leaked intel to the enemy, and took out the entire League. That was Savage's last move. He used a known team member to gain intel without the victim even knowing what was going on, until it was too late." Resuming her control over the Bioship, Artemis headed for where Wally's squad was supposed to be sent. When they arrived, around dawn, the cargo was gone, as was the enemy. All that remained, was Wally's squad, and all of them were knocked out hard.
