Upon arriving at the church, and seeing both her mom and Wally's whole family already starting to arrive, as well as the League members in their civvies, Artemis took a deep breath, and entered the mixture. She found her mom over by Wally's mom, and the two were laughing. Artemis stared wide eyed, at the fact that her fiancé's mother, happened to look just like him. She had the same green eyes and the same red hair, as well as the same slim figure. "Hey Mom, I'm glad you're here.", the blonde said, turning her attention from Mrs. West, over to her mom. Her mom replied, "Artemis...you look so stunning in that dress. Why don't you ever wear one at home or in public for me?" Artemis rolled her eyes, and said, "Mom, you know why I don't wear dresses in public. Besides, this is only for today. Once this day is over, this is going back in the closet, so I can wear whatever I want." Hearing the doors of the church opening, Artemis expected to see Wally rush through the doors, but was disappointed to see Dick coming in instead, wearing a full suit and tie. Remembering the last place he had been was with her fiancé, Artemis pushed through the people, and came up to the dark haired man. She demanded, "Dick, you were with Wally last. Where is he?" The tall teen shrugged, "I don't know. Wally and I parted ways a bit back, after he said he had to do something real quick. He raced off before I could ask him anything further. He should be here soon, though. He'd never be late to his own wedding, especially if it's you, who he's engaged to." For a brief second, Artemis forgot that she was mad at Dick for taking away her fiancé from her before the wedding. She closed her eyes and breathed, remembering that it had only been a few short months back, that Dick and the League had found Wally in the Arctic, frozen, amnesiac, and scared. Her mind went through the occurrences and the speech she gave, that actually brought back her Wally from being owned by what had trapped him. Finally, she remembered the kiss, that had brought with it, the blue lightning and her true love's memory of her. Opening her eyes, she looked up at Dick, realizing for the first time in a while that he was taller than she was. Suddenly, Artemis felt a tug on her arm, and felt someone dragging her away from Dick, who was preoccupied with keeping Bart's swift fingers off the cake. As she was dragged from the scene, to the front of the church behind closed doors, she exclaimed, "Ow! Ooww!! Will you quit that?!" Reaching the inside, Artemis got a break, and saw M'gann holding her arm by the upper half. The ginger said, "Sorry Artemis, but that's the only way we could get you away from out there, where they're still prepping. Do you have your vows written up?" Artemis replied, "No, because Dick out there couldn't give me time alone with my fiancé to go over the vows before the wedding. We were going to do it, then Wally got pulled away for the mysterious thing in Bludhaven." Zatanna, who was standing present in the room, handed Artemis a pad of paper, and said, "Write something down that you promise to Wally. It doesn't have to be much, but it should be from you personally." Artemis gave a brief nod, then took a pen, and scribbled down the words she had been falling back to, since her boyfriend had proposed. When she finished, she ripped off the sheet, and folded it, slipping it into her hand. She took yet another deep breath, and said simply, "Today's the day." M'gann flew above the blonde, and gently placed the veil on over her face and on her head, then came back to the ground, and changed into her Caucasian skin tone. Suddenly, the sound of bells echoed through the church, announcing to everyone that they were going to begin. Walking up to the double doors, Artemis took a final deep breath, and let it out slowly, attempting to calm her uneasy stomach. When the bells fell silent, she heard the sound of the organ, beginning to play the deep tones of the song Here Comes the Bride. The doors opened, and Artemis stepped out, in rhythm to the song, as it played melodiously. As she walked down the aisle, followed by M'gann and Zatanna, she began feel that something was missing. Looking upfront, she saw the pastor and Dick standing on the stage, but wait? Where was the speedster of the hour? Inside, Artemis began to panic, but her outside personality remained calm and collected, while she worried. Where was Wally now? Was he seriously running late for his own wedding? Getting up to the front, Artemis turned to face the crowd, and felt heat rushing to her cheeks. Where the heck was Wally on their wedding day? He was almost never late! Her eyes moving to the pastor's eyes, Artemis heard the man give an almost inaudible "Ahem? Miss Crock? Where's your fiancé?" Artemis turned to Dick, who again, shrugged his shoulders. For a moment, all was silent, except for the sounds of people breathing. Artemis prayed, "Wally, get here soon, so you don't embarrass yourself again please!" In the silence, they all waited, until the pastor said, "I'm sorry ladies and gentleman, this was not in the program whatsoever." Suddenly, there was a squeaking, as the side door opened, and in stepped Wally, dressed in a full tuxedo, while all eyes turned to see the latecomer. Artemis turned to the redhead, who was blushing of embarrassment, and gave a small smile. Wally dashed up, fast like a speedster, but not too much to be noticed by the untrained eyes. He came to stand in the front, opposite of Artemis, and said, "Sorry ya'll. I had a little mix-up and got turned around in Star. Who knew those streets were so winding?", which earned him a series of small snickers from the younger members of the League and of his family. Grinning widely, he whispered, "Sorry, I'll explain it all later." to Artemis. The pastor said, as the snickering died down, "Ladies and gentleman, after some delay, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of Mr. Wallace Rudolph West and Miss Artemis Lian Crock. Before we proceed, if there is anyone present that does not think these two should be united, please speak now, or forever hold your peace." Silence reigned in the room, before the pastor continued, "Who gives this woman to be married to this man?" Artemis looked, and watched her mom wheel forward, and softly whisper, "Although my husband is not here, he and I do." The pastor turned from Artemis' mom, back to the couple, and said, Now it is time for the vows. This couple had decided to write their own. Wallace, please begin." Artemis looked at Wally, who grinned again, and said, "Artemis, from day one you have always been with me. Despite my...absence at times, I am grateful that you stuck beside me, and were there to be my hero, when I needed one. I hereby promise, that I will always love you and cherish you, no matter what you do. You won't have anything to ever prove to me. You are my spitfire, my light in the dark, my everything. I promise I will always be around, and will be with you, even when things get tough. I love you, Artemis. Don't forget that." The pastor turned to Artemis and gestured for her to begin. Taking a deep breath, the blonde said, "Wally, we have been through so much together, and although you know who I am, you don't care. You love me anyways. I promise, that I will be the kind of wife you deserve. I promise that I will never be the one to harm you, emotionally or physically. I promise that when all else fails, if need be, I will be with you to the end." The pastor said, as Artemis finished speaking, "The rings?" Artemis watched Wally turn to Dick, grab her ring from his friend's hands, then turn to her. Doing the same, except to M'gann, Artemis reached and grabbed a hold of the simple gold ring she had chosen for Wally. When it came time for the rings to be put in place, Artemis slid the ring onto Wally's finger. Holding out her left hand, she watched slowly, as the ginger slid the ring on carefully, then looked up, and gently removed the veil from over her face. The pastor replied, to the veil being removed, "By the power vested in me, I pronounce you Husband and Wife. You may now kiss." Being drawn closer to each other, with her slim hands in his, Artemis soon found herself with her grey eyes shut, kissing the man of her dreams. It felt like the kiss lasted forever. The kiss ended, and Artemis looked to her new husband, who was beaming with happiness. Both turned to face the audience, as clapping and hurrahs came from different sections of the room. Turning back to Wally, Artemis gave a wide, purely happy smile, one she never had thought she'd ever do in her whole life.
A/N: I do apologize for this being super long, but I felt the whole thing needed to happen in one chapter. I got the inspiration for Wally being late to his own wedding, from the Incredibles (love that movie), and from the fact that all speedsters have to be late to everything, to keep their powers hidden from those suspicious. Barry actually said that, so there is proof. Anyway, hope you like this humorous scene...
