So, yeah... going back to the 'mole thing'. I know it happened once, but a lot can happen in a 5 year gap, and it was the first thing that came to my mind, when I was looking for a way to have the mission be a failure. Bear with me, okay? I promise you'll love the plot twist I have in mind for the final book of the series...
However, after Wally finished tending to his cousin, Artemis remembered they still had to inform Nightwing of the counterattack, and the possibility of there being another mole on the Team. Together, the couple made their way to the mission room, where Nightwing was standing by a holographic computer screen, observing the newscast, done by Cat Grant, about the missing cargo. As they arrived, the screen went off, and Nightwing turned to face them, and asked, his face stern, "What happened, Artemis, Flash?" Artemis was about to say what she had suspected, about there being a mole on the Team, but before she knew it, Wally had held out his arm across her, and apologized, "The enemy somehow knew of the covert mission, and took out my squad, during their counterattack. I am sorry it happened, and I will discuss tactics to better my squad for the next attack, should one occur." Nightwing frowned, and replied directly, "Fine. Artemis?" The blonde continued, "Nightwing, I have a reason to believe we may have a traitor, er, a mole, on the Team again. This mission had been a covert one, yet the enemy knew of our attack, and sent backup, that put one of the squads, in danger. I suggest we start a deep, thorough investigation into the Team's members, so that if there is a mole, he or she will be found out, so we do not end up like we did before, with the League under the enemy's hand. Savage was one of the ones being observed during the covert mission. Do you suppose this is his doing, again?" The raven haired Bird shook his head, and said, "No. Savage would not attempt to pull the same stunt he did, otherwise he would be stupid. There must be someone else pulling all the strings, and fully controlling the mole's every move. If he or she is on the Team, we cannot let them know, or they will begin to let the Light know of the problem at hand." Artemis nodded, then turned to Wally, and said, "We'll go look into each of our squad's files." Nightwing rejected the idea, saying, "It would probably be best if I do that. Your job is to make the search unknown to the Team. Convince them that whatever is going on, was just a lucky guess. We don't want to trigger a war between the teens, over who may or who may not be a mole." Wally added, "If it's my honest opinion, we still don't really know if Arsenal's clone, Red Arrow, is free from Sportsmaster's and the Light's control. He may have admitted to it five years ago, after the fact, but that could be another ploy. We should dig back into his file, and pull up the last search, in order to assure he is still on our side." Nightwing nodded, then replied, "It's not just Red Arrow we should worry about. We should send a squad to Cadmus to make sure there are no more clones and no other ways the Light could use a team member to cause disperse. Flash, you'll head up the Cadmus trip." Wally's mouth gaped, as he asked, "Why me, Nightwing? I literally was the reason the last mission was a failure. It was my squad that took the blow." The Bird smirked, replying, "Which is exactly why I want you to do it. You and Artemis' squad will go to Cadmus to do an undercover investigation. I'll contact someone on the inside, and let them know you're coming. They are able to be trusted, I assure you." Artemis looked at her husband, his whole body on pause, as he stood astonished by the comment. She said, "Nightwing, remember how I told you about what happened last night...with the nightmare? Let me do the mission. I know Cadmus, and I can do it." The Bird shook his head, saying, "No, Artemis... the only way things will get easier, is if he does them. You may be his wife, but that doesn't give you permission to take what I give him to do. This is his mission, and he needs to get his head in the game." Artemis watched Nightwing turn, and walk away briskly, leaving the couple in the room. Carefully, she took Wally's hand, and saw a bolt of lightning in his emerald eyes, as he said, "Sorry you had to do that, Artie. I-I can do the mission. It just startled me a bit, with the idea." The blonde smiled, pulling Wally closer until his body was framed against hers, then whispered, "Could we talk now? I have something I need to admit to you." The ginger grinned, then both headed for her room again. When they arrived, and after both were in the room, Artemis shut the door, and moved over to sit beside Wally on the bed. He asked, "So what did you need to talk to me about, babe?" Artemis said suddenly, "Jade...she came by last night before you had that nightmare, Walls. She told me the Light had plans that she didn't even know about, but they concerned you. She told me things are about to change and the world will crumble as well, and everything she said, mentioned the word 'flash', as if she was meaning you. I just don't want you to be taken from me again. I couldn't bear to deal with the trauma of losing you for the second time in several months." Wally wrapped his muscular arms around Artemis, and said, giving her a soft squeeze, "Artie, you don't have to worry about losing me. I love you, and that will never change. Whatever your sister said is false, because the Light is broken, remember? We broke it in half several months ago, when you were undercover, and I was worried sick about you. Besides, I know how to take care of you and I both, just like I always have. Please...let your fears go about whatever the heck she said. Things aren't ever going to change. Okay?" Artemis nodded, then laid down, letting her blonde hair fall over the pillow. Closing her eyes, she felt Wally's warm body move closer to hers, and his fingers playing in her hair, his voice softly whispering, "You are the most beautiful girl I have ever met, Artemis Lian West. My spitfire, and my goddess. Man, I'm one lucky guy that we found each other..." Artemis replied, teasingly, "You most certainly are, lover boy. Now get over here. We need to finish what we started, before we were disturbed." Wally grinned, "I can take that." Laughing, the two began to have their quiet moments of peace and silence, yet, Artemis was worried still, despite Wally's words. Jade had come with a message for her...about the Light's future plans. Did the message have anything to do with there possibly being another mole on the Team, working for the Light?
