Reverse Rebirth Series Book 2 : So I'm A West {COMPLETED}

Chapter 20: Just The Beginning -

Artemis watched, as Thea went up to Bart calmly, and said, "Hey, so I'm really sorry I hit you, Allen. I just go so jealous, that um...because I like you. As in, really like you." Bart looked at Wally, who smiled at him, and nudged the young boy speedster. Finally, Bart turned to Thea, and replied, "Thank you, Speedy...for understanding." Both teens hugged, then left the room, leaving the adults present only. Before Thea had left, Artemis had seen the younger archer smile warmly for once, knowing she had admitted her truth to Bart. After the teens left, the blonde archer turned to Wally, and gave him a kiss, saying, "Now all that's left, is to talk about the possibility of a mole on the Team." Nightwing came up beside them, and answered strictly, "Actually, Artemis... that's why I asked the other teens to leave. We all need to talk." Within a few moments, five of the six original members of the Team (Yr; Seas 1) were sitting in their seats, dressed in full suits, at the Watchtower's meeting table in the front room. None of the other League members were around, so it gave them the perfect time to talk business. Upon bringing the meeting to order, Nightwing said, "I hate to inform you all, but I believe we may have another mole on the Team, who is destroying any chance we have of winning against the enemy. It might be best to search all the team members, just to ensure none of them are Cadmus clones, like Arsenal's clone, Red Arrow, who was a sleeper agent, and was unaware of the truth." Miss Martian asked, "How do you know, Nightwing? We need proof if we're going to send out a search through the Team, in hopes of finding something." The Bird replied, "I do in fact have some evidence to prove my case. When Flash and Artemis took the Team out for their first real mission, since the Reach was stopped, the enemy somehow knew they were coming, and were ready with an attack to stop them. This can only mean, that someone leaked private intel about the covert mission prior to the attack. There is a mole on the Team, and I know it." Superboy asked, "But if there is a mole, why wait until after the Reach's attack?" Artemis answered, "Because they probably wanted the same thing as the Reach did, except on earth only. They were wanting to wait, because if they didn't, and the earth did blow up, there wouldn't be one left to rule or have command over." Flash added, "And if they had revealed themselves during the attack, then we and the League would have had no choice, but to make sure there was something to stop them from going what they set out to do, whether by a mental search from Martian Manhunter or someone else." Nightwing also said, "And the next question is, who do you think it could be? The Team that used to be just six members, now has more members than we used to, which means more of a chance of one of the teens being the mole. We all know for a fact, thanks to Miss Martian, that all of us are already cleared to not be a culprit, though we'll run though it again, just to be safe. Right now, no one's safe in the search. Do not mention a word of this to any of the teens. If one of them is the mole, we don't want to trigger them having to resort to killing to stop the truth from coming out." As the rest of the older Team members discussed where to go next, Artemis attempted to listen carefully to the conversation, but her mind was too distracted for once. The blonde archer was married to the man of her dreams, but what she knew, about that last visit from her sister, Jade, was that things were not exactly destined to go as planned. Jade had told her that things would change, because the Light had things planned, that she didn't even know about. Things, were already falling through the seams, even though everyone was trying to hold on tightly. From her being Speedy's mentor, to the visible sign of Bart coming out, then the ruckus that ensued after Speedy knew of the true feelings of the guy she crushed on. Everything, as Nightwing used to say as Robin, was becoming a huge disaster, heavy on the 'dis'. Artemis turned to look at Wally, sitting and talking in his scarlet red suit with the whitish blue lightning insignia, belt, and striping along the gloves, and just stared at how incredibly handsome he was. His emerald eyes beamed brightly, and showed so much light, that had lit up her world like no other guy could. The past between them had been rough, especially when he completely forgot who she was, but all that, was just that. It was the past. Her mind going back to the nightmares he kept having, they all seemed to deal with a mental suffering over the loss of Barry. Coming back up, when she heard Nightwing call her name, Artemis stuttered, "Uh yeah, Nightwing...what is it?" The Bird sighed, then replied, his face solemn, "Guys, this is just the beginning of a hard, long war. We have a mole on the Team, and they are going to betray us day in and day out, but together, symbios, we are going to figure out who the heck they are, and take them down. This is just the beginning. You are excused." As the rest of the others stood up, Artemis remained in her seat, but felt a rush of wind behind her. Turning to look, she rested her eyes on Wally's, and stood up, giving him yet another kiss. He whispered in her ear, "Don't worry, babe. None of us have any idea what we're up against. You and I will fight this together, just like we fought, when I lost all my memories. As Nightwing said, we are fighting symbios, together, through everything. And I will always love you, no matter what, and I will come running home to you, because that's what I promised you. My little spitfire...the woman that won't let me get away with nothing." Artemis smiled, and breathed a sigh of relief. This was her life now, and she wouldn't trade any of it, or go back to her life before. This life now, was her perfect dream.

I have been working on the third book in my spare time, but it sadly hasn't gotten very far, not only because of no time, but also because I've had a writer's block for one of the chapters (like Ch. 8, I think).
