Edward didn't mind Louis' company, he rather enjoyed it, but after they arrived at the beach house, it got a little extreme.
Louis would never leave his side. When Edward ate, Louis came with him; when Edward had meetings, he came with him. Hell, when Edward showered, Louis was with him too, sitting on the counter with his hands over his eyes.
For the past two weeks, Louis followed Edward aimlessly, holding the belt loop in his pants to make sure the man didn't go anywhere. Edward was absolutely eating it up, until the younger boy wanted to go to work with him.
"No, Louis, absolutely not," Edward sighed. He had already spoke to the boy about him leaving and he thought they were on the same page, but here Louis was, trying to get into the car with Edward.
"But I want to go."Louis stomped his foot, trying to move Edward out of the way to get into the car.
"Come on, Baby Doll. Don't you want to stay with Harry?" Edward asked, grabbing the boy's tiny wrists.
"No, I'm mad at him," Louis scowled, wriggling around in the attempt to free himself of Edward's hold.
"Stay with Marcel then, I can't take you where I'm going." Edward looked down at the frustrated boy.
"I'm mad at him too."
"Doll, you're mad at Marcel too?" Edward laughed, the boy just hated everyone that wasn't him.
"He let you drive a-and you could've killed yourself, and Harry is mean."
"I understand that you don't want me to leave without you, but I have things to do and-"
"But Edward-"
"No buts, Baby Doll. You have to stay here," Edward with a raised brow. "Okay, Beautiful?"
Louis' bottom lip jutted out, and his eyes got teary. "Y-You don't want to take me?"
Edward sighed and picked up the boy, carrying him over to the door. "I don't want you to get hurt-"
"But what if you get hurt!" Louis cried into the man's chest, gripping onto Edward's shirt.
"If I get hurt you got two more of me to take care of you. But we only have one Louis, so we need to keep you safe, and that means that you stay here." Edward kissed the top of the boy's head, opening the front door slowly and walking inside.
Hearing Edward walk inside the house just made Louis cling onto him tighter and cry harder. "No no, Edward please don't go. Please don't go."
"Doll face, you're breaking my heart, please don't cry anymore," Edward sighed, walking up the stairs.
Louis shook his head and tucked his head under Edward's chin. "Please don't leave m-me," Louis stuttered, calming down just the slightest.
"I have to, I wouldn't leave if I didn't absolutely have to. You know that, right Dolly?"
Louis nodded, whimpering at the confirmation that he was still leaving.
Edward made his way to his room and kissed the boy's cheek. "Can you stop crying then, hm? For me?"
Louis rubbed his eyes, nodding gently, and hiccuping against Edward's shirt.
"I'll be back before you know it." Edward sat on his bed. "And then guess what? Once I'm back we can do whatever you want."
"W-Whatever I want?" Louis looked up at Edward, still clinging onto his shirt.
"Mhm, whatever my Baby Doll wants." Edward played with the boy's hair, making him lean into his touch and shut his eyes.
"A-And you'll be right back?"
"Yes, I'll be back before you even realize I'm gone."
"I-I don't want you to go," Louis said, whining when Edward set him down onto the bed.
"Come on, Lovely. You can be with Marcel and Harry, they miss you a lot." At the wrinkling of Louis' nose, Edward asked, "Are you going to be nice to my brothers, Baby Doll?"
Louis frowned and shook his head.
"Louis," Edward warned, "I'm going to leave now, and if I hear that you've been mean to my brothers I'm going to be very upset when I come back. Okay?"
At the mention of Harry and Marcel, Louis huffed. "If anything they'll be-"
"No, Louis. No talking back, no being mean. I'm going to say it again, and I advise you to listen, Beautiful. If I come home, and I hear that you've been mean to my brothers, I'm not going to be happy with you. Understood?"
Louis wiped his eyes and looked away, nodding gently.
"Use your words, Doll."
"Yes, I-I won't be mean."
"Good boy."
Louis decided to go to his last resort once he realized Edward was seriously going to leave; Louis moved to sit back on Edward and kissed him gently, holding onto the man's collar. Edward only pulled away when his phone went off. The plan's defeat made Louis frown.
"I really have to go now, Baby Doll," Edward sighed, pecking Louis on the lips one last time before setting him back on the bed.
Louis slouched against the headboard, watching Edward leave.
He didn't want to, but after the attack Louis felt so vulnerable when he wasn't with Edward. He wanted to be upset that his family didn't successfully get him, but he somehow was happy that they didn't, and that made him very disappointed with himself.
The only thing he could sort out in his mess of emotions, was that he cared for Edward and he didn't want to let him out of his sight. But he just let that happen, so Louis was even more disappointed with himself.
It didn't make sense to him, because how could he be mad at himself for not caring that he wasn't taken away, but also be mad that he let Edward leave?
It confused him to no end, so if you're confused too, don't you worry, Louis is just loosing his fucking mind over it.
---
Harry knocked on the door, it had been about two hours since his brother left, and Louis was being oddly quiet in Edward's room.
Louis ran up and opened the door with a grin on his face, which dropped as soon as he saw that it wasn't Edward.
"Oh." He leaned against the door, trying to leave no space for Harry to look into the room, completely forgetting that Harry was a foot taller than him. "Hi."
"Marcel made dinner, come down to eat." Harry looked down at the boy, and Louis looked up at him. If he didn't know any better Louis would've thought that Harry was Edward, but the man's floral shirt gave him away.
"I'm not hungry."
"Louis just come downstairs to eat, Edward is-"
"Edward isn't here, Harry! So I can do whatever I want, and you can't give me shit for it," Louis said, raising his voice even more when Harry had the audacity to smile.
"Here," Harry finished once Louis had stopped screaming, a grin on his face when Louis' began connecting the dots in his head. "Edward is here, that's what I was trying to say."
"...Oh"
"He wanted me to get you, he has had a rough day."
Stomping up the stairs brought Louis' attention to the end of the hallway.
"From the sounds of it he's on his way."
"D-Do you think he heard me?" Louis asked, his face red with embarrassment.
"It would be hard not to hear you screaming from across the house, Baby Doll."
