Secret
The weather was damp outside, and there was freshly fallen snow on the ground. Her fresh foot prints had already begun to melt behind her as she walked around the school courtyard. At the age of 17, Scarlett had never been much of a loner. She was always surrounded by dozens of people who acted like they had nothing to do, when truth be told, they all had places to be but would rather stand near the popular people hoping to be seen by them. 5 ft 7, and long silky blond hair most girls would just die for, she would look around herself and feel pleased with where her life was headed.
However, she always felt like something was missing. She had A+'s in all of her classes, and had done so since middle school, with hard work and extra credit. But it didn't take much for her. Considering she remembered everything she learned in class. She always had plenty of time after school to play her video games, watch her show before bed, and practice lines with her best friend Crystal. Crystal was the lead in all the plays in school, and always had been. She was amazing at everything! They had plans for everything in life. They had plans to go to Juilliard together with Crystal majoring in acting and Scarlett majoring in singing. They had been saving money for years for an apartment to share. All their plans were set in stone.
Crystal was tall, but not taller than Scarlett, with long dark brown super curly hair and crystal blue eyes, not like the ocean but like the sky, on a winters day just before it snows.
"Scar!" Scarlett could hear Crystal yelling for her after class, as she stood in the middle of the courtyard. "Scar! Are you even listening to me? I've been calling you, why aren't you answering your phone?"
Crystal ran over to her, in her 6 inch heel boots like a pro. "Sorry" She said, slowly brushing her hair behind her ear, "The ringer must still be off, what's up?"
"Have you seen the new guy?" That's caught Scarlett's attention. "New guy? What new guy?" She looked at Crystal curiously, but knowing exactly who she was talking about. Michael. She noticed him the second he stepped foot on the school grounds. She knew everything. Also, they used to date in middle school, but she didn't want anyone knowing that. It was around summer, and a very long time ago. Before she met Crystal. Although Crystal had heard about him, he had broken her heart by leaving town before high school started. He had gotten into some trouble and ran away before having to go to juvie. She never knew what happened to him after that. He tried calling a few times but she didn't answer. She didn't want to hear his voice. He wasn't coming back, so he didn't have anything to say, that she would want to hear. She had blocked him out of her memory. Until now.
"Oh my GOSH Scar, there he is!" Right as she looked in his direction, they made eye contact, and she could see the look in his eyes. He knew it was her. He saw through the different look, and saw right through her. He still looked the same, but taller. Short blond hair, bright blue eyes and he still carried his red Kramer guitar strapped to his back. He was like a God on the guitar. So melodic and just down right amazing! He was the one who taught her how to play the guitar. He was the reason why she was so good at writing her songs. She still remembered how to play "Smells like Teenspirit" by Nirvana. Probably the most simple song to ever learn.
Scarlett giggled under her breath thinking about Nirvana. "We should go, like now. I'm hungry. Is the cafeteria still open?" Crystal started clapping her hands together and smiled excitedly. "IT'S PIZZA DAY!" Scarlett laughed again, Crystal was so funny the way she got excited about everything. Especially pizza. It was her favorite.
They ran to the cafeteria, racing to see who could get there fastest in their heels. Crystal always won. "I swear you sleep in those things." She said to Crystal while shaking her head. She grabbed her tray, and started deciding what she wanted. "I'm not in the mood for pizza today." Scarlett said. Crystal slowly turned to face her, mouth gaping open and looked at her like she just ripped off the head of her favorite stuffed animal. It's name is Pinky, by the way. Pinky the pig. "I'm just kidding hahaha" Scarlett teased, as Crystal relaxed her face and teased her back. "You'll be glad you like it one day when it's the last food on EARTH!" Scarlett grabbed a salad from the salad bar, and gave Crystal her pizza. The look on Crystal's face was that of a person who was just given Willie Wonka's chocolate factory.
They grabbed a table in the back, just like they always did. She sat there, quietly eating her salad, hoping Michael hadn't changed and didn't eat lunch at school. But unfortunately, he seemed to have friends, cause he seemed to go and sit with all the stoners. Typical. He was a stoner, so it made sense. He was the skinniest stoner she had ever known. But now, with the body he had, she couldn't help but stare. He stood about 6 ft now, and if you looked at her right then, you would just know that she was staring so hard she could have burned holes through his clothes.
"Scarlett, that's the new guy. His name is Michael. He is a Pisces, and he is single. He plays the guitar and can sing like oh my God! I had him in 2 of my classes today, and I honestly have no idea what they even taught." "Ya, he seems like he'd be good at stuff." Scarlett whispered to herself and then realizing she was biting the tip of her pointer finger, and turned to face Crystal. Gently pushing her hair behind her ear she asked "Crystal, did you hear anything about where he came from? Like, where he moved here from? Did you happen to hear anything at all of import?"Just then, she turned back to face him and he was right there in front of her. With a smirk on his face. His arms were crossed, and for absolutely no reason at all, (I'm sure) he had taken his shirt off.
"It feels better than it looks. Trust me, I feel them all the time." Michael said. And that was the first time in her whole life, that Scarlett was actually speechless._____________________________
