Sweet Tooth
The drive home was rough. Knowing all the problems she ran away from were all going to be sitting there waiting for her when she got back, she didn't like that. Not one bit. Just looking out the window of the car, she could see the difference in climate and the view changed from above the trees to being eye level with the trees. From seeing the lake from up top, to seeing it only from the side. It was mid day, so the ac was off and she had the top down in Crystal's '67 Shelby gt, so their hair was just blowing around all over. She didn't mind her hair getting messy, she wasn't trying to impress anyone. Closing her eyes, she could still smell the burnt mesquite of the trees, the lavender of the flowers. The water from the lake. She took it all in, to remember it all. This was her happy place she had decided. When ever she was sad or upset, she would think of the views from the mountain, swimming in the lake, jogging through the forest. Her head swam with beautiful new thoughts to add to her dream world.
"Scarlett, I'm stopping for gas, do you want anything?" "I'd love some candy! Just get me some tootsie pops please." She was quite excited for those tootsie pops. When Crystal got back in the car with their goodies she opened the bag and pulled one out. She sucked on that sucker for a few minutes, "how Crystal. How many licks do you think it takes to get to center of this tootsie pop? One... two... three.." crunch, she bit down. With Crystal laughing, Scarlett didn't think it was so funny. "OUCH! I think I just broke a tooth!" Crystal stopped laughing, pulled over and grabbed her face. "Open up Scar. Oh, ya. Ouch is right. Your back Moller is broken. Does it hurt?" Scarlett put her finger in her mouth, so she could feel where it broke. Sure enough, it was broke. She was all of a sudden feeling an immense amount of pain. All she wanted to do was go straight to the dentist, so she called her mom and told her what had happened. Her mom set up an emergency appointment and called her with the information so she could meet her there. They were less than an hour from home and they had plenty of time to get there. So Crystal had no problem going a little above the speed limit to get her there.
When she arrived, she saw her mom out front waiting for her to get there. She ran up to her mom and gave her a big hug. She hadn't seen her in almost 2 weeks, and these were under crappy circumstances to see her again. But whatever. They went upstairs to see the dentist and after xrays and speaking with the dr, it was determined that she needed a crown. Mom gave the go, and they numbed her up.
After everything was done she came outside to see her mom in the waiting room sitting alone. "Mom, where's Crystal?" "She went home honey, it was already after 5 when we got here. She wanted to go see her family too. She put all of your stuff in the car, and said to call her and tell her all about your 'sweet tooth'." Her mother had said. "Hahaha, sweet tooth, I get it. Cause I was eating a candy when it happened. Good pun. Dork. My face hurts really bad. Did you already get my prescriptions?" She eyed her mom curiously, needing to be pain free. Her mom nodded and handed her a bag of medications. 3 different pills. "2 for pain. Nice. More candy hahaha." She giggled and took her meds and went in to her room. Waiting for the pain to stop she decided to text Crystal.
Scarlett- so how's it like being back in the real world?
Crystal- it's ok. I miss our bubble lol
Scarlett- ya me too
Crystal- so hows the tooth? Did they give you good pain meds?
Scarlett- it hurts they did a crown and ya, I got some really good candy
