Chapter 1
It's New Year's Eve! Hey!
Yeah nope, I thought to my self sarcastically. 2012 you were a big bully to me, I'm glad your done and over with in the next few hours.
For those of you that don't know, my name is Amaryllis, but everyone calls me Lilly.
Just a few facts about myself: I'm a Sophomore in college, I attend Northwestern University in Chicago, and I'm an English/Journalism major.
My life isn't so interesting, I spend most of my time reading at my apartment all by my self, but today was New Years Eve, my friend Angelica or 'Jelli' was coming over to pick me up to go to some party. She didn't like for me to be all alone, because I spent Christmas alone most of the time until my sister Mari came to visit.
I didn't even spend it with my parents, or broken family I should say, but I did call them both and today too.
It's been almost an hour since I was ready and waiting for Jelli to come. Jelli is the closest person I could call a friend, not best best friend, but an amazing friend. We've known each other since we were little, she's one year older then me, and she's a Junior in Ohio University, where she is too majoring in journalism like me. She's been with me through the tough times, only when I let her or just break.
"Lilly! Open the door! It's freezing out here!"
That would be Jelli.
I opened the door to be met by a shivering Jelli and the gush of cold wind, welcome to Chicago, the Windy City.
"Uh!!" She shivered herself out of the coldness.
"Hot chocolate?" I asked.
"Yes please!" She said. I went over to my small kitchen and served her in a mug and put a few marshmallows inside.
"Here you go!" I said.
"Thanks! But hey!! How are you?! I've missed you!" She hugged me with her free arm.
"Same old same old" I said.
"I figured" she said taking a sip of her chocolate, "but I'm loving your cute outfit! Are you seriously going to step out in the cold like that?"
I was wearing a green short jumper type of dress with black tights and shiny black pumps with my hair curled to the side and red lipstick.
"Yeah" I said.
"You're crazy"
I laughed, "You walk around a campus just fine, me I have to walk through the cold, snow storms, and cold wind, I'm so use to it by now"
"You have a point there, but come on, it's 8, we need to get to this party!" She said.
I grabbed my long coat from the coat hanger and stepped down the stairs to get in Jelli's car. I was surprised it wasn't snowing, makes it way better for the both of us. Driving in the snow and in Chicago it's almost like a suicide mission, people are crazy here.
Rule of thumb: The bigger the city, the crazier the people.
"Now this party..." I started.
"It's gonna be fun, you know not a whole lot of people, but not lonely either it's perfect!" She said pulling out of the parking.
Let me tell you something else about Jelli here, she knows people, she has all of these connections. Majoring in journalism does have it's perks because you meet very important people and famous ones too. She's interviewed Harry Styles from One Direction, that should give you a clue of what Jelli is doing to get her credits. She has studied abroad in Europe and now landed an internship for the Hollywood Reporter in LA.
