Chapter 8
Third Person POV
The boat ride around Chicago's Lake Michigan couldn't have been a better experience for Royce to get closer to Lilly. He couldn't explain what drew her in to him, but he loved it. She was something rare, yet precious at the same time. Many would say something out of the ordinary, or unique in her own way.
While everyone else danced in side, Lilly was out in the deck of the boat by herself. She didn't mind being alone, she has been for a while, and she was used to it by now.
Royce was inside trying to look for her, and finally found her outside. Her back was facing him, and he took the precious moment he had to admire her from behind.
It's a once in a life time feeling to feel what Royce was feeling. Just by looking at a simple girl, he felt the connection. Nothing compared to Emeraude. He admired the way her long black hair was swirling in the wind, the way the city lights made her brown eyes twinkle underneath them, how her tan Olive skin tone shined, and the way her hand was laying softly on her cheek.
Sounds corny to many people, and even to Royce himself for thinking such thing about a girl, but he couldn't help it. Everything about her was mesmerizing.
"Enjoying the view" Lilly said from her spot, she didn't even turn around. How could she know he was there, he was so quiet.
Royce coughed, "Um, I was just wondering where you were" he walked up to her.
"I'm good, it was just too crowded already in there" Lilly said.
"Yeah, it is, just making sure you're ok though" Royce said finally standing next to her.
"Thanks, I'm fine" she smiled.
"Aren't you cold?" Royce said, it sure was more cold in the downtown area, because of the lake, the wind was colder.
"Naw, like I said, I'm used to it by now" Lilly said.
"Yeah I guess walking through snow this time of year is nothing compared to this" Royce said.
"Yeah, but it's all good, I love what I do, and I know once I graduate, it'll all be worth it!" She smiled proudly which made Royce smile as well.
"You are so enthusiastic about it, I like that, what specifically in English are you doing?" He asked. He took any chance he got to her more things out of her, he was on a mission after all.
"Journalism, I want to be a journalist" Lilly said smiling.
"Like Jelli too, that's amazing" Royce smiled.
"Yeah me and Jelli were close when we were kids, we always wrote stories, I never liked math, I sucked so bad at it. When I moved into this country from Puerto Rico, learning English was a struggle"
"You--you lived in Puerto Rico!" Royce said surprisingly.
Lilly laughed softly, "Yeah, I lived in San Juan/ Truijillo that area around there, my dad was the only one working and his work was dying, so my family from Indiana came to visit us, and they convinced my parents to move to the States, I was only in 3rd grade, so 7 years old, and we moved into this little town full of basically white people, and only a couple other Mexican families other then my own, now you!"
"What is this like you say something then I do?" Royce said.
"Yeah, your turn!" Lily nudged him.
"Well... Let's see, well nothing much really, your life seems like an adventure already, I was born in New York, I'm the second oldest behind Rodney"
