Chapter 20
I lied. If I could be given an award for being the best bullshitter on the spot, then aye it'll be official. I thank my forensic speech competitions in high school. I was able to make up a story to Angel and Luis on the spot about who was this so called 'Royce.' Luis and Angel fell for it right way, maybe Geoffrey was right, I deserve an Oscar for being the best actress. I hate lying to them, but I couldn't tell them who 'Royce' really was, they would freak.
I was too lost in my own thoughts that I didn't care running into people and hearing their mumbles as I never looked back to apologize or even care. I just lied to Angel and Luis. It may not seem like a big deal, but it is. I never lie to them, never. Just like my sister Mari, they are the two people I trust with life.
"Watch it bitch!"
I stopped an turned around to see guy who had called me out.
"What!" He shouted, we were in one of the busiest halls of the communications department and the students walked completely oblivious to what was about to go down. "Watch where you're going stupid muslim bitch."
My eyebrow quickly arched, and before he knew it, my fist came in contact with his nose.
"Oh shit!" The students that were around us noticed, I saw them take out their phones to snap pictures.
"Latina nigga! Latina! Not muslim! You ignorant fuck!" I raised my voice at the blonde muscular football player who was holding his nose in shock. "Canto de pendejo." I murmured under my breath. I turned on my heels and left with all eyes on me as I strutted down the hall to my following class. I ignored all the whispers that surrounded me and kept walking towards my destination. I have to admit though, my hand did hurt a little after that punch. It's been a while since I've punched someone on the face for disrespecting me.
Most people when they meet me automatically think I'm Muslim or from India, given that my face has no scent of Mexican on me, some do see the Dominican part, but not the Mexican. I'm used to it by now, but for sure don't expect me to not punch you in the face after you insult with ignorance.
This made my day already worse, I walked into my lecture completely pissed and sat down farthest away from the professor up front. Usually I'm in the first or second rows, but this time, I really don't care. I don't try to open my laptop to start taking notes, I'm in a fuck everything type of mood now. I lay my head down on my desk and close my eyes, not really looking forward to this lecture.
I groan slowly when my phone vibrates against my desk, it was Angel face timing me. I hesitate to answer in fear of further questioning about Royce, but I suck it up and answer, I also put on the headphones so no one could hear the conversation.
"Yes..." I say completely uninterested.
"What happened?" Angel appeared through my my phone, he was in the library, and by the looks of it, Luis was there to.
"What are you talking about?" I shake my head annoyed.
"Que le partiste su madre a un guerito in the hall?" Luis pipped in laughing as if he was proud. Damn, the word does go around fast on campus, this being one of the largest campuses in Chicago itself.
"Oh that.." I mumble bored.
"What happened Lilly?" Angel asked concerned.
"Nothing he called me a stupid muslim bitch and I punched him." I said flatly.
"OOH YAS!" Luis exclaimed, from behind is head, the librarian hissed at him. "Ay pinche guerita." He shook his head in annoyance, "Yes, that's my girl!" He turned back to the phone.
"Yeah, word spreads fast." I said bored.
"What's wrong?" Angel asked.
"Nothing, I'm just tired I guess, I'm gonna sleep it off in you dorm." I started getting up from my sit. I hadn't taken anything out, so I stepped out of the lecture hall. The prof didn't stop me or anything, this is college you do whatever you want.
"Ok then.." Angel started, but I ended the conversation accidentally. I didn't bother in calling them back, they're probably thinking I need space.
My first day back in school and it's already horrible. No one could put a smile on my face, not even Luis's jokes. I walked down the various halls of campus to reach the guys's dorm. All the while whispers and fingers were being pointed at me. Yes, I punched a football player in the nose, not a big deal. I rolled my eyes and I kept walking around the halls.
This day started out good, but turned bad in just a matter of hours.
I opened the door to the dorm room and set my bag down at the floor, forgetting that it was bad luck to do that and went to lay of Angel's bed.
My phone again started vibrating against the pillow just as I was going to close my eyes. I groaned and picked it up, and to think no one could put a smile on my face till I saw who had texted me.
'Royce❤️'
