Morgan's POV

I first see Luke during lunch sitting at his usual table with people I don't bother to know. He skipped fourth period and I wonder if he really does not want to see me that bad.

He looks up at me as I pass by and I see no difference in his appearance. He doesn't look at all sad or anything, as if I never even meant anything to him. Maybe I didn't. But I thought we were good friends. I thought he really liked me. What happened to all that?

I scoff and go to my table. I take a set with Lyric, Jack, Zach, Arianna, and Haley. Benny must be on his way.

"Hey, Morgan, are you okay?" Haley asks me.

"I'm fine," I answer with a small smile. "Why? Do I not look okay or something?"

"No, you look good. I was just wanting to check up on you like a good friend," she replies. "Is there a problem with that?"

"Nope," I respond and chuckle. "So what's the news with that one girl, Jack?"

"What do you mean?" He questions me.

"You know, the one you broke up with. Who was it anyway?"

"Oh, I'm not going to tell you that. But I blocked her number, and luckily she doesn't go to this school so it's no that hard to avoid her in person," he answers and I nod my head.

"Good for you," Zach says.

I look at my phone when I get a text from Tommy and it says: I miss you.

I roll my eyes. He just saw me not too long.

I look over at Jack and I see him get up and leave the cafeteria. Hmm. I don't see Luke at all in here now either.

I text Tommy back: Where you at?

Home right now. I think I have a cold, he replies. Awe, maybe I should bring some soap by when school is over.

"I'll be back," I tell the group as I put my phone in my pocket and get up. I leave the cafeteria like Jack did not too long ago.

Out in the hallway, I walk around the hallway to look for Luke or Jack, wondering what the two could be doing and if they are involved in the same thing.

"Thanks, man," I hear a familiar voice say. I stay behind a pillar so I can't be seen. Who is he talking to?

"No problem." Great. He's talking to Jack.

"I'll give you the money I owe you for this tomorrow," Luke replies.

"Okay. Since you made me work so hard and you are paying so much money, make sure you do not lose her. Morgan is special."

What? What? What?

What is going on?

'Paying so much money'?

What is this?

"See ya and thanks again," Luke says and I hear footsteps coming in my direction. I duck into the girls' bathroom and hear one of them walk by.

All I can think is: what is even going on?
